Chapter 5 - The Golden Horizon

Three months later.

The winter snow had blanketed Central Park in a pristine, glittering white sheet, but inside the grand ballroom of the Moretti estate, the air was warm, bright, and filled with the sound of music and children laughing.

It was the annual winter gala for the Moretti Foundation—an evening traditionally reserved for judges, politicians, and high-ranking business leaders. But this year, the guest list looked entirely different.

Tables lined the ballroom, filled not just with men in expensive suits, but with the domestic staff, cooks, drivers, and security personnel of the estate, sitting side by side with their families, celebrating the launch of the new employee welfare and education trust.

At the head table sat Sophia Delgado, wearing a simple, elegant navy dress, smiling brightly as she spoke with Rosa Bellini about the upcoming curriculum for the children’s literacy center.

A few feet away, sitting cross-legged on a plush velvet armchair near the fireplace, was Emma. She wore a new winter dress with small silver stars embroidered along the hem, and she was busy coloring in a thick book of horse stories, entirely absorbed in her own quiet world.

Alessandro stood near the tall arched windows, holding a crystal glass of sparkling water, watching the scene unfold before him.

Marco Rizzi walked up beside him, adjusting his cuffs.

“The board members from Chicago are asking when you’ll be returning to the main conference room, Boss,” Marco murmured.

“Tell them the board meeting is adjourned,” Alessandro replied without looking away from Emma, who had just held up her coloring book to show a passing waiter her drawing of a galloping stallion.

Marco smiled faintly. “You know, Boss… looking at this room tonight, your father wouldn’t even recognize this house.”

Alessandro took a slow sip of his water, feeling a warmth in his chest that had nothing to do with the roaring fire in the hearth.

“No, Marco,” Alessandro said softly, his slate-gray eyes reflecting the bright lights of the ballroom. “My father built an empire of stone and iron. But for the first time in my life… this house finally feels like a home.”

Across the room, Emma looked up from her book, caught Alessandro’s eye across the crowded floor, and gave him a bright, cheerful wave.

Alessandro raised his glass to her in a silent toast, knowing that some storms don’t just pass—they leave behind a sunlight so bright it changes the entire world.
