Chapter 8 - A Symphony of Spring

Four months later.

The brutal Boston winter had finally surrendered to the gentle warmth of May. The snow on Beacon Hill had melted away, replaced by blooming red tulips, fresh green lawns, and bright blue skies.

The Cross Estate had undergone a complete transformation.

The cold, dark atmosphere that had hung over the mansion since Nadia’s passing was gone. Light poured through every high window. The third-floor servants' quarters had been converted into a bright art studio, and the dark mahogany furniture in the main living room had been replaced with warm, comfortable velvet couches.

Down at Cross Tower, the syndicate had been completely reorganized. The corrupt elements had been purged, legitimate investment channels had been established, and Victor Slade served as the chief corporate administrator under Ezra’s strict, fair rule.

Griffin Cross and Paige Harrington were currently serving twenty-five-year sentences at a maximum-security federal facility in upstate New York, their assets permanently seized and liquidated into a trust fund for pediatric cancer research—a foundation created in Nadia’s memory.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, the grand back garden of the estate was filled with the sound of cheerful music and sweet child laughter.

Rosie, dressed in a bright yellow sundress, was chasing a golden retriever puppy across the manicured lawn, her dark brown eyes sparkling with pure, unadulterated joy.

Near the stone terrace, Ezra stood wearing a simple white linen shirt and dark trousers, a glass of iced tea in his hand. The cold, ruthless mask that had defined his life for eight years was completely gone. His face looked younger, his gray eyes warm and clear.

Willa stepped out onto the terrace from the French doors. She wore a flowered summer dress that caught the breeze, her auburn hair falling in soft waves around her shoulders, her pale green eyes shining in the sunlight.

Ezra turned, his gaze locking onto her. A soft, genuine smile spread across his face—a smile that now appeared every single day.

He set his glass down on the table and walked over to her, taking her hand gently in his.

"How is she?" Ezra asked softly, glancing toward Rosie playing on the lawn.

"She finished her drawing for school," Willa smiled, leaning against his shoulder as they watched the little girl run. "She drew three people today. You, her, and me. She labeled it My Family."

Ezra’s heart swelled with a deep, profound warmth that made his chest ache in the sweetest way possible.

He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small, dark velvet box.

Willa’s breath caught in her throat. She stopped, turning to face him, her eyes going wide.

Ezra didn't hesitate. The man who ruled the East Coast, the man who made criminal syndicates bow in fear, dropped gracefully to one knee on the warm stone terrace.

He opened the velvet box, revealing a flawless, radiant-cut emerald ring surrounded by delicate diamonds—a stone the exact shade of Willa’s eyes.

"Willa," Ezra said, his voice deep, smooth, and steady as an anchor. "Eighteen months ago, you came into this house as a nanny. But when the darkness came, when everyone I trusted revealed their greed, you stood like a shield in front of my daughter. You bled for her. You fought for her. And in doing so, you healed my shattered heart."

Tears of pure happiness welled in Willa’s eyes, sparkling like diamonds in the May sunlight.

"I don't want a syndicate boss's life for you," Ezra continued, looking up into her eyes with absolute devotion. "I want a home. A real home filled with laughter, safety, and love. I want to build that home with you, for the rest of my days."

He took a quiet, shuddering breath, holding her soft fingers in his hand.

"Willa Sinclair, will you marry me and be my wife, and a mother to our little girl?"

Before Willa could speak, a tiny voice shouted from the lawn.

"SAY YES, WILLA! SAY YES!"

Rosie came sprinting up the terrace steps, her puppy tumbling behind her, her small hands clapping excitedly. "Please say yes! I want Willa to be my mommy forever!"

Willa let out a breathless, joyful laugh, tears spilling down her cheeks as she dropped to her knees right in front of Ezra.

She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him into a deep, passionate, reverent kiss that carried all the gratitude, relief, and love that had built between them through the storm.

"Yes," Willa whispered against his lips, her hands trembling against his cheeks. "Yes, Ezra! A thousand times yes!"

Ezra slipped the emerald ring onto her finger, pulling her close, while Rosie threw her small arms around both of them, joining the tight, warm circle.

The sun shone brightly over the Beacon Hill estate, casting long, golden shadows across the stone terrace. The winter of cruelty and betrayal was gone forever, buried beneath the blooming flowers of a new spring.

And in the center of the garden, wrapped in each other's arms, Ezra Cross, Willa, and little Rosie stood together—a complete, unshakeable family, protected by love, bound by truth, and blessed with a forever after.
