The cleanup took another month. The federal prosecutors were grateful for the intel on Vantage Point, and the eviction notice was rescinded as the forged debts were cleared from the public record.
I didn't keep the house. It felt like a monument to a life that had never really existed. We moved to a small farm in the countryside, a place where the air smells of pine and the only thing we have to fear is the weather.
Emma is back in school, though she still carries a backpack full of extra food—a habit I’m slowly helping her break. Caleb is finally sleeping through the night, his small, quiet heart settling into the rhythm of a home where no one ever has to be a parent but me.
