Chapter 3 - The Unraveling

The investigation exploded into a public scandal. As news of the "Bennett Security Ring" broke, the town of Oak Creek fractured. Neighbors who had once praised the Bennetts’ "strict parenting" were now scrambling to check their own security systems, terrified that the eyes they had invited into their homes were the very ones monitoring their secrets.
I became Noah’s temporary guardian while the state processed the massive backlog of evidence. He was a difficult child to reach—guarded, observant, and perpetually waiting for the other shoe to drop. But slowly, the walls began to crumble. He started talking about the "rules."
"They told me that people are only valuable if they have secrets," Noah told me one rainy afternoon, his eyes fixed on a book he wasn't reading. "They said if I learned everyone's secrets, I’d be safe. But I didn't want to be safe, I wanted to be a kid."

My heart shattered for him. I realized then that my mission wasn't just to help the police; it was to give him back the childhood that had been stolen. I began documenting everything he told me, cross-referencing his accounts with Miller’s findings. We found a pattern: the Bennetts were targeting families with prominent status, using their own children against them. The diary was a goldmine of leverage.
However, as the truth came out, so did the people who wanted it buried. I started noticing a black sedan parked at the end of my street at 3:00 AM. I received anonymous calls that disconnected the second I picked up. The syndicate was still active, and they were looking for the assets that hadn't been compromised. We were in danger.
