In the weeks that followed, the life Marcus had built with his "new bride" disintegrated with spectacular speed. Sarah, realizing there was no hidden treasure, no offshore account she could bleed dry, and no high-profile career to ride, walked out of their shared apartment within days of the public indictment. She left a note on the counter—a scathing summary of his worthlessness that mirrored my own internal realization.
I watched from a distance—not with obsession, but with the curiosity of a scientist watching a failed experiment. Marcus was evicted. He was blacklisted from every major tech hub in the country. He moved into a dingy studio on the edge of the city, his professional reputation in tatters, his social circle having evaporated the moment he stopped being a "success." He had traded a partner who built him for a parasite who drained him, and now, he was simply alone.
