Chapter 7 - The Mastermind Unveiled

The retaliation was swift, surgical, and absolute.
By Thursday morning, the District Attorney’s office, backed by the hospital's internal cybersecurity division, executed a surprise search warrant on the personal phone and computer of night charge nurse Sarah Jenkins.
Facing federal charges for falsifying medical records and illegal access to controlled substance databases, Sarah Jenkins cracked within forty-five minutes of interrogation.
She provided full text messages, bank transfer receipts, and recorded phone calls proving that Bianca Whitmore had paid her $50,000 to alter the Pyxis dispensing logs and frame me for drug diversion.
At 2:00 PM on Friday, a formal emergency meeting was called at the Whitmore family estate in Chestnut Hill.
Garrett, still pale and recovering in a armchair in his living room, sat quietly while Bianca hovered nervously near the fireplace. Melissa and Paige sat on the sofa, looking anxious.
The grand front doors opened, and Evelyn walked in, flanked by Daniel, me, two uniformed officers from the Boston Police Department, and an investigator from the state prosecutor's office.
Bianca turned pale when she saw the police officers. "Grandmother... what is the meaning of this? Why are the police here?"
Evelyn didn't stop until she stood directly in front of Bianca.
"Bianca," Evelyn said softly. "Did you truly believe that you could frame my daughter-in-law for a felony and hide behind an IP address?"
Bianca’s eyes widened in terror. "I... I don't know what you're talking about—"
The state investigator stepped forward, pulling a heavy blue folder from his briefcase.
"Bianca Whitmore," the investigator announced loudly, his voice echoing through the opulent living room. "You are under arrest for Criminal Conspiracy, Framing a Medical Professional, Falsifying Evidence, and Bribery."
"No!" Bianca shrieked, backing away toward the fireplace. "Garrett! Tell them! I did it for us! I did it because they humiliated you!"
Garrett looked up from his armchair. His face was a mask of profound sorrow and disappointment. He looked at his wife, then turned his head to look at me—the woman who had restored his heartbeat on a dirty floor.
"You did it out of your own disgusting pride, Bianca," Garrett said, his voice raspy and broken. "I told you to leave them alone. Amanda saved my life. And you tried to destroy hers."
"Garrett!" she sobbed as a female officer stepped forward, pulled Bianca's arms behind her back, and snapped steel handcuffs around her wrists.
CLICK. CLICK.
"You have the right to remain silent," the officer recited calmly. "Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law..."
Melissa began sobbing on the sofa, clutching Paige to her side, watching her mother being led out of their luxury home in handcuffs in broad daylight.
Evelyn turned her eyes to Melissa.
"Melissa," Evelyn said coldly. "You shared those forged documents on your social media accounts yesterday morning, attempting to publicly humiliate Amanda before the audit was complete."
"Grandmother, please!" Melissa begged, dropping to her knees on the rug. "I didn't know they were forged! My mother told me they were real!"
"Your malicious stupidity is no longer an excuse," Evelyn stated flatly.
"You are stripped of your trust allowance permanently. Your lease on the family property in Wellesley is terminated as of the first of next month. You will find a job and pay for your own daughter's education."
"No!" Melissa wept, her face pressed against the carpet. "Please, no!"

Evelyn turned her back on her, walking toward the open front door where the police cruiser was pulling out of the driveway with Bianca sitting in the back seat.
The snobs who had treated my family like trash had finally consumed themselves in their own bitter flames.
