Chapter 7 - The Reckoning and Truth

For forty-eight hours, the top floor of Mount Sinai Private Hospital was placed under an unprecedented military-grade lockdown.
Elite Marchetti soldiers guarded every elevator, while Kade tactical teams secured the perimeter. For the first time in history, the two most powerful crime syndicates in the western hemisphere stood shoulder-to-shoulder, united by a single purpose.
Inside the intensive care unit, the soft, rhythmic beep of a heart monitor echoed through the quiet room.
Weston lay in the bed, his chest heavily bandaged, an IV line connected to his arm. He looked thin, pale, but his breathing was steady.
Beside the bed sat Odalys.
She wore a soft cashmere sweater, her regal gowns put away, her face pale with exhaustion. She had not left his side for two straight days. Her hand was firmly intertwined with his, her thumb gently tracing his knuckles.
On the table beside them lay a clear ultrasound image—a scan taken that morning showing a healthy, thriving ten-week-old fetus.
Weston’s eyelids fluttered open slowly. The bright white light of the hospital room made him wince.
"Weston?" Odalys’s voice was soft, trembling with cautious hope as she leaned closer.
Weston turned his head slowly. His gray eyes, clear now of pain and delirium, focused on her face.
"Odalys..." he rasped, his voice dry as sand.
"Don't try to move," she instructed gently, pressing a small straw with water to his lips. "The surgeons removed two bullets from your chest and shoulder. You lost a lot of blood."
Weston took a small sip, then reached out, his hand trembling slightly as he touched her fingers. He looked down at their joined hands, then up into her eyes.
"You're here," he whispered, tears welling in his eyes. "I thought... I thought I lost you forever."
"You almost died for me, you idiot," she said, tears slipping down her own cheeks, though a tiny, tender smile touched her lips. "You threw yourself in front of a high-caliber rifle."
"I would die a thousand times," Weston said, his voice deep, raw, and completely devoid of pride. "I burned my own life down the night I let Julian trick me into hurting you. I threw away the only woman I ever truly loved. I don't care if you are an appraiser or a Mafia Queen, Odalys... my heart belongs to you. It always has."
Odalys swallowed hard, her chest aching with a deep, healing warmth. She reached out with her other hand, taking his hand and placing it flat against her lower stomach.
"He's safe, Weston," she whispered emotionally. "Our baby is safe. The doctor said he's as stubborn as his father."
Weston closed his eyes, a sob tearing from his chest as he felt the warmth of her body beneath his palm. He lifted her hand to his lips, kissing her knuckles repeatedly, weeping openly in the quiet hospital room.
The heavy door to the room creaked open slowly.
Everett Marchetti stepped into the room, accompanied by Marcus. Everett looked at Weston, then at his niece. The old Italian patriarch’s eyes held a deep, newfound respect.
"Don Kade," Everett said, bowing his head slightly—an honor he had never bestowed upon any American syndicate leader. "The traitors have been dealt with. Viktor Vanev and Julian have been handed over to international tribunals with enough evidence to ensure they never see the light of day again. Their networks have been completely dismantled."
Weston looked at Everett. "And the Marchetti family?"
"The Marchetti family," Everett said, looking at Odalys with deep pride, "has reclaimed its rightful position. But my niece has made a decision regarding the future of our combined empires."
Odalys looked at Weston, her green eyes filled with a vision of a new tomorrow.
"We are done with the dark, Weston," she revealed softly. "We are merging Kade Enterprises and Marchetti Holdings into a single, fully legitimate global maritime and real estate corporation. No more illicit shipments. No more blood money. We build a clean world for our child."

Weston smiled—a real, genuine smile that lit up his entire face for the first time in years. "Whatever you want, my Queen. I’m just your security detail now."
Everett chuckled softly, shaking his head. "A very expensive security detail. I'll leave you two alone."
