Chapter 6 - Freezing the Empire and Cutting the Cards

By sunrise, the legal dismantling of Vanessa’s carefully constructed web of luxury was proceeding with terrifying, corporate efficiency.

Upstairs in the master suite, the four girls were finally sleeping peacefully. Dr. Miller had administered mild vitamins, warm fluids, and confirmed that while they were severely malnourished and dehydrated, there was no permanent physical damage. They were safe, warm, and surrounded by pillows and blankets in my bed.

I sat at the mahogany executive desk in my private home office, a mug of black coffee cooling beside my laptop, reviewing the preliminary financial audit generated by Marcus and my forensic accounting team.

The numbers were staggering—and sickening.

Over the past two years, while I was traveling the country securing multi-million-dollar government and private contracts for Caldwell Systems, Vanessa had systematically siphoned over four point two million dollars from the girls' educational trusts and corporate expense accounts.

She had purchased a luxury condo in Miami under a shell corporation, funded lavish shopping sprees in Paris, and maintained a secret allowance for her lover, Julian, all while forcing my five-year-old daughters to share moldy bread in an unheated room.

My phone buzzed on the desk. It was Marcus calling from his downtown office.

"Talk to me, Marcus," I answered immediately.

"It's done, Thomas," Marcus’s voice came through the speaker, crisp and satisfied. "All remaining secondary accounts linked to Vanessa have been completely frozen. Her luxury vehicles—the Range Rover and the Porsche—have been repossessed by our repo team and towed back to corporate headquarters. Furthermore, her passport has been flagged with Homeland Security as a flight risk given the pending criminal charges for child endangerment and grand larceny."

"Good," I murmured, rubbing my temples to ward off a stress-induced migraine. "What about her legal representation?"

"Her high-priced divorce lawyer, Sterling, called my office ten minutes ago," Marcus chuckled softly. "The moment we forwarded him the text message logs and the financial fraud audit, he dropped her as a client faster than a hot potato. No self-respecting attorney is going to touch this case when there's undeniable video and digital proof of child abuse and embezzlement."

"Make sure the district attorney has everything by noon," I instructed. "I want a watertight indictment filed before the end of the week. I want her facing maximum prison time."

"Consider it handled. By the way, Thomas... how are the girls?"

I glanced toward the open bedroom door, where I could see four little heads resting peacefully against the pillows through the crack in the doorway.

"They're sleeping," I said softly, a quiet warmth settling into my chest. "They're safe. For the first time in months, they actually look relaxed."

"Good. Take care of them, boss. Let us handle the legal bloodbath."

I hung up the phone and leaned back in my leather chair, letting out a long breath. The battle was far from over—custody hearings, media fallout, and court dates loomed on the horizon—but the cancer had been cut out of our lives.

Now came the real work: rebuilding the shattered trust of four little girls who had learned far too early in life that the people meant to protect them could be the ones who hurt them the most.
