Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Execution

Forty-eight hours later. Monday morning, 9:00 AM.

The corporate headquarters of Ellison Northbridge Group soared fifty stories above the downtown Los Angeles skyline, a glittering monument of dark glass and chrome.

In the grand executive suite on the top floor, the Board of Directors was assembled around a thirty-foot glass conference table. Outside the double doors, a commotion broke out.

"Let me in! I am the mother of the Chief Executive Officer!" Margaret’s shrill voice echoed down the hallway.

The doors burst open.

Margaret, Ashley, and Michael rushed into the boardroom. They had spent what little cash they had left to buy cheap, off-the-rack suits from a department store to look presentable, but they looked ragged, desperate, and unhinged. Behind them were two security guards trying to restrain them.

"It's alright, guards," I said smoothly from the head of the table. "Let them speak."

The board members gasped, looking at the intruders with confusion and disdain.

Margaret marched right up to the edge of the glass table, slamming her fists down. "Daniel! You think you can ruin us?! We came to give you one final chance! You give us fifty million dollars and restore our access to the family trust, or we walk down to the lobby right now where three news crews are waiting to record our press conference!"

Ashley stepped beside her mother, holding up a smartphone. "We have photographs, Daniel! Photographs of the motel! We will tell the world you abandoned your family! We will ruin your company’s stock before the opening bell!"

The board members looked at me nervously.

I didn't flinch. I didn't even stand up. I took a calm sip from my coffee cup, set it down on its saucer, and clicked a remote control in my hand.

The large projection screen on the wall lit up.

"Before you start your press conference, Ashley," I said softly, "let's review the footage my legal team gathered over the weekend."

On the screen, a high-definition video began to play.

It was security footage taken from inside my mansion over the last six months—footage from hidden cameras my private security team had installed years ago for domestic protection, cameras my family never knew existed.

The audio played loudly through the boardroom speakers.

On the screen, Ashley was seen slapping Emily across the face, ripping a gold ring off her finger.

"Give it to me, you useless parasite!" Ashley’s recorded voice shrieked on the video. "You're nothing in this house!"

The video cut to another angle. Michael was seen opening my study's safe, stealing stacks of bearer bonds and forging my signature on corporate check transfers.

"Daniel’s too busy in Singapore to notice ten grand missing," Michael laughed on the tape.

Finally, the screen showed the scene from three nights ago: Margaret deliberately pouring Pinot Noir over Emily's pregnant belly, laughing as she commanded her to scrub it.

"Scrub it before it sets... We can't have Daniel's house looking like a slum."

The boardroom went dead silent.

Every single director looked at Margaret, Ashley, and Michael with absolute, unadulterated disgust.

"This footage," I announced calmly to the room, "has already been delivered to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office, along with a ninety-page forensic accounting report detailing three million dollars in corporate grand larceny, domestic abuse, forced labor, and extortion."

Margaret’s jaw dropped. The smartphone slipped from Ashley’s numb fingers, shattering on the hardwood floor.

"No..." Margaret whispered, her face going gray. "No... Daniel... you wouldn't send your own mother to prison..."

"I didn't send you to prison, Margaret," I said, pointing toward the boardroom doors. "Your own actions did."

The double doors opened once more.

This time, it wasn't my security team that stepped inside.

Four uniformed officers from the Los Angeles Police Department, accompanied by two federal investigators from the financial crimes division, walked into the room.

"Margaret Whitcomb, Ashley Whitcomb, and Michael Whitcomb?" the lead detective asked, pulling three pairs of steel handcuffs from his belt. "You are under arrest for grand theft, corporate embezzlement, domestic abuse, and felony conspiracy."

"No! Get away from me!" Ashley shrieked, backing away as an officer grabbed her wrists, snapping the cold steel around her arms. "Daniel! Help me! Daniel!"

Michael tried to run for the side door, but two officers tackled him to the carpet, forcing his hands behind his back as he wept like a baby. "I'll give the money back! I'll give it back! Don't take me to jail!"

Margaret stood frozen as the detective clicked the handcuffs around her delicate wrists. She looked at me with wild, terrified eyes.

"Daniel... I’m your mother..." she whispered, her voice cracking. "You can't do this to your mother..."

I leaned forward, looking into her eyes with total, unwavering resolve.

"My mother died the day she forgot how to be human," I said.

The officers dragged the three of them out of the boardroom, their frantic screams echoing down the marble hallway until the elevator doors closed, cutting off their voices forever.
