Part 2 – The Truth That Ended Everything

The next morning, I called my best friend, Nicole.

My voice cracked before I even finished the first sentence.

“I think he’s cheating.”

Nicole didn’t ask questions. She just said, “I’m coming.”

Forty minutes later, she arrived with a folder.

Inside it was the truth I had been trying not to see.

Hotel receipts.
Photos.
Messages.
Proof of a double life.

I stared at them until the world blurred.

There was Michael.

The man who kissed my pregnant stomach.

The man who promised forever.

Smiling beside someone else.

I didn’t scream.

I didn’t cry.

Something inside me simply went still.

That was the moment I stopped being his wife.

Three weeks later, I signed the divorce papers.

No confrontation. No final argument.

Just a signature that ended everything.

Then I disappeared.

I disconnected the house security system.
Turned off my location.
Cut every thread that could lead him back to me.

What he didn’t know was this:

The papers would be delivered to him while he was sitting in his office—with her.

Jessica Monroe.

The courier placed the envelope on his desk without ceremony.

Just paper.

But when Michael opened it, his entire world collapsed.

Jessica glanced over his shoulder and frowned.

“Divorce papers?”

Michael didn’t answer.

His eyes scanned the page.

Emily Whitman v. Michael Whitman

And below it, my signature.

A short message:

You made your choices. Now I’m making mine. Do not contact me except through my attorney.

His hand tightened around the paper.

Once. Twice.

As if pressure alone could undo reality.

He tried calling me immediately.

Voicemail.

Again.

Voicemail.

Again.

Nothing.

For the first time, Michael realized something terrifying:

He couldn’t reach me anymore.

Jessica sighed. “She’s just emotional. Pregnancy makes women—”

“Get out,” he said suddenly.

She blinked. “Excuse me?”

“Get out of my office.”

The room froze.

“You wanted this,” she said sharply.

May you like

Michael looked at her, but his voice dropped into something cold and hollow.

“I made a lot of choices,” he said. “And every single one brought me here.”
