Chapter 8 - A Solid Foundation

One year later.
The autumn air in Minneapolis was crisp, clean, and biting—the kind of weather that made you appreciate the warmth of a well-built home.
I stood on the balcony of my penthouse apartment overlooking the glowing city skyline at dusk. The hardwood floors beneath my feet were solid, the structural beams overhead were unbreakable, and every single square foot of the space was earned by my own hands, my own mind, and my own unyielding resolve.
My architectural firm, Parker & Associates, had just won the commission for the city's new waterfront cultural center—the largest and most prestigious project of my career. My professional reputation was soaring, my finances were secure, and my peace of mind was absolute.
I took a sip of hot tea, watching the amber autumn leaves swirl past the glass railing.
The scar on my left temple had faded into a thin, nearly invisible silvery line. Whenever I caught sight of it in the mirror, I didn't feel pain or bitterness. I felt strength. It was the mark of a woman who had stood in the center of a storm, refused to break, and rebuilt her entire world on her own terms.

Behind me, the front door unlocked, and my golden retriever bounded into the living room, tail wagging excitedly as friends arrived for a quiet, intimate dinner party. There were no fake smiles, no toxic ambushes, no fragile porcelain plates waiting to be shattered. Just genuine people, honest laughter, and a home built on a foundation that nothing in this world could ever shake.
I smiled, stepped back inside, and closed the balcony door, ready for every single tomorrow that belonged entirely to me.
