Chapter 4 - The Ultimate Reversal

The sound of heavy vehicle tires crunching over the gravel driveway outside signaled the arrival of the federal transport units before the three-minute mark had even fully elapsed.
Through the massive floor-to-ceiling dining room windows, the flashing red and blue lights of unmarked federal SUVs cast an eerie, strobe-like crimson glow across the priceless oil paintings and antique sideboards of the Morrison estate.
Diane let out a piercing shriek of absolute terror and collapsed backward into her chair, her hands clawing desperately at her pearls. "No! No, this is insane! Brendan, do something! Call the governor! Call the senator! You’re an executive!"
Brendan stood paralyzed, staring out the window at the federal agents stepping out into the rain with folders and tactical gear. The realization that his entire identity—his title, his status, his bank accounts, his entire social standing—was built on a foundation of sand had finally shattered whatever fragile ego he had left.
He turned back to Cassidy, his knees trembling so badly he had to grip the edge of the mahogany table for support.
"Cassidy... please," Brendan whimpered, his voice breaking into a pathetic, desperate whine. "We have a child together. You’re going to be a mother! How can you be so cold? How can you destroy your own daughter’s father over a... over a bucket of water?"
Cassidy stopped walking toward the exit. She turned back, her expression one of utter, chilling disbelief.
"A bucket of water?" Cassidy repeated, her voice rising slightly for the first time. "Brendan, your mother poured freezing, dirty water over a pregnant woman for sport. And you laughed. You stood there and laughed while your girlfriend humiliated me in front of your staff."
She stepped closer to him, closing the distance until Brendan could smell the faint, clean scent of rain and soap beneath the dampness of her clothes.
"You didn't care about our daughter when you and your mother forced me to move into the guest cottage behind the garage because my presence 'embarrassed your social standing,'" Cassidy said, each word landing like a physical blow. "You didn't care about our daughter when you diverted her medical trust funds into your personal cryptocurrency accounts last month. Do you think I didn't see the audit flags, Brendan? I saw every single penny you stole."
Brendan swallowed hard, his throat dry as bone. "You... you knew?"
"I know everything that happens within my corporation," Cassidy said coldly. "I let you hang yourself with your own rope. Tonight was simply the public hearing."
The heavy dining room doors pushed open wider, and two federal agents in dark windbreakers stepped into the room, flanked by Arthur, the Executive Vice President of Legal for Aetheris Global, who carried a sleek, heavy leather briefcase.
Arthur looked around the opulent, chaotic dining room with calm, professional detachment. His eyes briefly met Cassidy’s, and he gave her a respectful, almost imperceptible nod.
"Madam President," Arthur said clearly, his voice cutting through the quiet sobbing of Diane and Jessica. "The federal marshals are securing the perimeter. All corporate devices belonging to Brendan and Diane Morrison have been successfully wiped and mirrored. The freeze orders on their personal and corporate accounts have been confirmed by the federal banking clearinghouse."
Arthur stepped forward, pulling a set of cold, gleaming steel handcuffs from his coat pocket and placing them on the mahogany table right in front of Brendan.
"Brendan Morrison, you are formally placed under arrest for corporate embezzlement, fraud, and violations of fiduciary duty under federal statute 41-B," Arthur recited calmly, his voice ringing with absolute finality.
Brendan stared at the handcuffs as if they were venomous snakes. He looked up at Cassidy one last time, searching her face for any trace of the soft, obedient wife he thought he had manipulated for years.
He found nothing. Only an absolute, untouchable sovereign.
"Take him out," Cassidy instructed quietly.
Before Brendan could open his mouth to scream or beg again, Vance and two federal agents moved in, grabbing his arms with professional, unyielding force. Brendan stumbled backward, his expensive designer shoes dragging across the Persian rug as they hauled him toward the exit.

Diane shrieked hysterically, lunging forward to grab her son, but she was gently yet firmly blocked by Vance’s solid frame.
Jessica stood frozen against the wall, clutching her handbag like a shield, whispering over and over again into the empty air, "This isn't real... this isn't real..."
