Chapter 5 - The Fall of the Mask

“Julian, have you lost your mind?” Patricia’s voice rose, losing its sweet cadence and hardening into a sharp, defensive snap. “Are you seriously listening to these maids and children over your own future wife? After everything I’ve told you about Rosa trying to sabotage us—”
“Stop talking, Patricia,” I interrupted, my voice cutting through her words like a razor blade.
I pulled a small, sleek tablet from my inner coat pocket. With a single tap of my finger, the massive wall-mounted smart television in the formal living room flickered to life.
Instantly, crisp, high-definition video footage began to play on the screen.
It showed Patricia standing over Daniela, ripping her favorite book away. It showed her tossing Martina’s stuffed rabbit across the room. It showed her dropping her own diamond earring into Rosa’s cleaning caddy with a malicious, triumphant smirk. It showed months of verbal abuse, threats, gaslighting, and cruelty, captured from multiple angles by the estate's advanced security network.
The audio filled the grand foyer, echoing off the marble pillars:
“When your father isn’t here, you’ll do exactly what I say the first time!”
“Did I ask for your opinion? Then remember your place.”
Patricia stood frozen.
Her breath hitched. Her eyes darted from the television screen back to me, then to Martina and Daniela, who were watching her with quiet, unbroken courage. The illusion was gone. The carefully constructed web of lies had been blown apart in seconds.
“No... no, this is fake,” Patricia stammered, her voice cracking as panic clawed its way into her throat. She lunged forward, grabbing my sleeve with manic desperation. “Julian, listen to me! Those videos—they’ve been edited! Rosa hacked the systems, she set me up, she manipulated the footage to make me look like a monster! You can’t believe this trash over me! We’re getting married! We’re building a life together!”
I slowly pulled my arm away from her grip, stepping back as if her touch were toxic.
“Marcus,” I said without looking back.
From the hallway, my head of security stepped forward, flanked by two uniformed estate officers and our family attorney, who had arrived quietly through the side gates just minutes prior.
“The forensic integrity of these archives has already been verified, Miss Patricia,” Marcus said coldly, holding up a certified data report. “Every frame, every time stamp, every audio log is authentic and backed up on secure, off-site servers that cannot be altered.”
Patricia’s face turned ashen white. The sophisticated, elegant society woman vanished completely, replaced by a cornered, desperate predator realizing her game was irrevocably lost.
“You can’t do this to me,” she hissed, her voice dropping into a venomous snarl as she glared at me, abandoning all pretense of sweetness. “You think you’re so smart, Julian? Without me, your business dinners are a joke, your social standing is a mess, and your spoiled brats will run wild! You need me!”
“I need a home,” I said quietly, looking down at my daughters, who finally smiled—a genuine, radiant smile that reached all the way to their eyes. “And for the first time in a very long time, my home is finally safe.”
I motioned to the officers.
“Escort Miss Patricia off the property immediately. Have her personal belongings packed into boxes and shipped to her primary residence. Any attempt to contact me, my daughters, or anyone working on this estate will result in immediate criminal prosecution and a permanent restraining order.”
“You’ll regret this!” Patricia screamed as the two officers stepped forward, gently but firmly taking her by the arms and guiding her toward the front doors. “You’ll be begging for me back! You’re all ungrateful—!”
May you like
Her voice faded away as the heavy oak doors swung shut behind her, sealing her out of our lives forever.
The heavy silence that followed didn't feel suffocating anymore. It felt clean. It felt like breathing fresh air after years in a smoke-filled room.
