The days following the meeting were a masterclass in psychological warfare. Mark tried to maintain his "golden boy" image, but the foundations were crumbling. My investigator had been busy. We leaked pieces of the financial mismanagement to his business partners, not all at once, but in a slow, agonizing drip.
Every time Mark stepped into his office, he was greeted by hushed whispers and suspicious glances. The firm’s board of directors, people who had previously admired his "shrewd" management, began auditing the accounts he touched.

Clara, watching from the safety of my home, began to see them for who they truly were: not grand, imposing villains, but small, petty people whose power was entirely dependent on the suffering of others. She began to laugh again, a genuine sound that filled the house. Every time Mark called, begging for a "reconciliation," she didn't even look at the phone. She just turned the volume down and continued her morning coffee, the taste of freedom finally sweeter than any comfort she had known before.
