Chapter 6 - The Gates of Ravenwood Manor

Midnight had fallen by the time the black convoy rolled through the towering, wrought-iron gates of Ravenwood Manor.

The gates—intricately forged with the intertwined crest of the Vance family—swung open automatically as the security system registered Julian Vance’s lead vehicle, accompanied by the new biometric clearance linked directly to Elena’s DNA profile.

Inside the car, Elena gazed out the tinted window in stunned silence.

Rising majestically against the moonlit backdrop of the Northwoods was an architectural masterpiece. Ravenwood Manor wasn't just a house; it was a sprawling, gothic-revival estate built from dark stone, slate roofs, and glowing amber windows that seemed to watch the driveway with ancient, protective wisdom. Towering oak trees lined the grand avenue, their branches swaying gently in the midnight breeze as if welcoming their true mistress back after a quarter-century exile.

The car glided smoothly along the circular cobblestone driveway and came to a halt in front of a grand marble portico.

Before Julian could even reach for the door handle, it swung open from the outside.

Standing on the stone steps was an elderly butler in a pristine black tailcoat, flanked by a row of senior household staff—cooks, housekeepers, and estate managers—all standing at strict attention. Their faces were pale, their eyes wide with disbelief and suppressed emotion.

The head butler, a man named Henderson who had served three generations of Vances, stepped forward, his hands trembling slightly as he looked into the car.

Julian stepped out first, offering a respectful nod to the staff. Then, he turned and extended a hand to help Elena out.

Elena stepped out onto the marble steps, holding Adam and Chloe securely against her chest. She was still wearing her simple, faded cotton dress, but as she stood under the grand entryway of Ravenwood Manor, she carried herself with a natural, breathtaking grace that commanded the immediate, absolute reverence of everyone present.

Henderson stared at her face—at the sharp contour of her jaw, the piercing blue of her eyes, the undeniable resemblance to the portrait of Arthur Vance hanging in the grand library.

The old butler’s knees suddenly buckled. He dropped to the stone steps, tears streaming down his withered cheeks.

"My... my little princess," Henderson choked out, his voice cracking with decades of stored grief. "Welcome home."

Behind him, the entire household staff dropped to one knee in unison, a silent, powerful testament of loyalty to the rightful heir of the Vance dynasty.

Elena felt a lump form in her throat. She swallowed hard, blinking back her own tears, and stepped forward, lifting her chin with quiet dignity.

"Please," Elena said, her voice clear and steady echoing off the ancient stone walls. "Rise. You have kept my family's home alive through the darkest years while I was away. For that, I am eternally grateful. But from this night forward, you don't need to bow to ghosts. We are going to rebuild this house together."

Henderson looked up, a radiant, tearful smile breaking across his face. He rose to his feet and bowed deeply. "At your command, Ms. Vance."

Julian smiled approvingly, stepping up beside her. "The master suite on the third floor has been prepared for you and the children. Your father’s personal study has remained untouched for twenty-five years, exactly as he left it the day he died. Whenever you are ready, it is all yours."

Elena looked up at the towering dark silhouette of the manor against the star-studded night sky. The road from the dusty village had been long, agonizing, and full of sorrow—but as she crossed the threshold into her true home, she knew the nightmares were finally over.

The real war for Ravenwood was just beginning. And Victoria Vance, sitting in her cold jail cell, had no idea what was coming for her.
