PART 2: THE SECRET CAMERAS

The sound of high heels echoed through the mansion.

Click.

Click.

Click.

Ricardo had heard that sound thousands of times before.

Normally it brought comfort.

Familiarity.

The feeling of coming home.

Today, it filled him with dread.

Camila stepped into the kitchen carrying designer shopping bags.

She looked flawless as always.

Perfect hair.

Perfect makeup.

Perfect smile.

The image of the ideal future wife.

Then her eyes landed on Isabella.

The smile disappeared.

Only for a second.

But Ricardo noticed.

And so did Isabella.

The little girl immediately hid behind him.

Camila's expression quickly returned to normal.

"Ricardo!"

She sounded surprised.

"You're home early."

Ricardo stared at her.

Studying her.

Searching for something he had somehow missed for years.

Something darker.

Something hidden.

Then he glanced at the dog food scattered across the floor.

Camila followed his gaze.

For a brief moment, panic flashed across her face.

Again, it disappeared almost instantly.

"What happened?"

Nobody answered.

The silence felt suffocating.

Finally Ricardo spoke.

"Why was my daughter eating dog food?"

Camila laughed.

Actually laughed.

As if the question were ridiculous.

"She wasn't."

Ricardo looked down at the kibble stuck to Isabella's shirt.

Then back at Camila.

The lie was so obvious it felt insulting.

"I saw her."

Camila's smile tightened.

"Children make up stories."

Before Ricardo could respond, Isabella squeezed his hand.

Hard.

The message was clear.

She was scared.

Terrified.

And not of him.

That night, Ricardo didn't confront Camila further.

Instead, he watched.

Observed.

Waited.

Years in business had taught him something important.

People reveal the truth when they think nobody is looking.

At dinner, Camila played the perfect stepmother.

She served food.

Smiled warmly.

Asked Isabella about school.

Anyone watching would have believed she was loving.

But Ricardo noticed something strange.

Every time Camila looked at Isabella, the little girl flinched.

Every single time.

After dinner, Ricardo tucked Isabella into bed himself.

Something he hadn't done in months.

Maybe years.

The realization hurt.

As he pulled the blanket over her, she grabbed his hand.

"Daddy?"

"Yes?"

Her eyes filled with tears.

"Are you leaving tomorrow?"

The question shattered him.

Because she wasn't asking.

She was pleading.

"No."

"Promise?"

He swallowed hard.

"I promise."

For the first time all day, Isabella smiled.

A tiny smile.

But real.

And that smile convinced Ricardo of something.

His daughter was hiding a secret.

A terrible secret.

And she had been carrying it alone.

The next morning, Ricardo canceled every meeting.

Every conference.

Every appointment.

Then he called someone he trusted completely.

A former cybersecurity expert who now worked as head of security for one of his companies.

By noon, discreet cameras had been installed throughout the mansion.

Not obvious cameras.

Hidden cameras.

Invisible.

Camila never noticed.

Neither did the staff.

Then Ricardo did something else.

He pretended to leave for a business trip.

He packed a suitcase.

Called a driver.

Said goodbye.

And drove away.

But instead of going to the airport, he checked into a nearby hotel.

Then he waited.

At first, nothing happened.

Hours passed.

Camila relaxed.

She laughed.

Watched television.

Made phone calls.

Everything seemed normal.

Then Isabella came home from school.

And the woman on the screen transformed.

The change was immediate.

Terrifyingly immediate.

The smile vanished.

Her voice hardened.

Her eyes became cold.

Ricardo felt sick.

It was like watching two different people.

The first thing Camila did was take away Isabella's dinner plate.

The child hadn't even touched it yet.

"No dinner."

Isabella lowered her head.

"Why?"

"Because you embarrassed me yesterday."

The little girl began crying.

"I'm sorry."

"Go to your room."

Ricardo clenched his fists.

His knuckles turned white.

But what happened next was worse.

Much worse.

Camila entered Ricardo's office.

Closed the door.

Opened the safe.

His heart nearly stopped.

How did she know the code?

He watched her remove stacks of documents.

Bank records.

Investment accounts.

Inheritance papers.

Then she made a phone call.

Ricardo turned up the volume.

What he heard made his blood run cold.

"It's almost finished."

Silence.

Then the voice on the other end replied.

Camila smiled.

"Once we're married, everything transfers exactly as planned."

Ricardo stopped breathing.

She continued.

"The child won't be a problem."

The room seemed to spin.

The child won't be a problem.

His daughter.

She was talking about Isabella.

Like an obstacle.

Like a burden.

Not a child.

Not a human being.

An obstacle.

Then came the sentence that changed everything.

The sentence that exposed the entire nightmare.

Camila laughed softly.

"I've spent three years earning his trust."

Three years.

Three years of lies.

Three years of manipulation.

Three years of pretending to love a little girl she clearly hated.

Ricardo felt physically ill.

Then the man on the phone asked a question.

Camila's answer made his heart stop completely.

"After the wedding, we'll put Isabella where she belongs."

Silence.

Then she smiled.

"At a boarding facility overseas. Somewhere far away."

Ricardo jumped to his feet.

His entire body shaking.

Because he finally understood.

The dog food.

The hunger.

The bruises.

The fear.

Camila wasn't just abusing Isabella.

She was preparing to get rid of her.

And judging by the documents scattered across Ricardo's desk...

There was an even bigger secret hiding beneath the surface.

One involving millions of dollars.

A secret so shocking that when Ricardo uncovered it the next day...

May you like

It would destroy Camila's life forever.
