PAGE 3: THE SEARCH THAT TOOK TWENTY YEARS

Sarah sat down slowly beside the hospital bed.

For the first time, her confidence disappeared.

Now she looked vulnerable.

Human.

Scared.

"I don't remember much about the fire," Sarah said softly.

"I was only two years old."

Emily listened carefully.

"But my parents never stopped talking about you."

Richard and Linda remained silent.

Sarah continued.

"Every birthday."

"Every Christmas."

"Every graduation."

"My parents reminded me that I was alive because of a little girl who refused to ignore someone else's cries for help."

Emily felt tears forming.

Sarah looked down.

"When my father died three years ago, he told me something."

The room became still.

"He told me that if I ever had children of my own, I needed to find you."

"Why?" Emily asked.

Sarah smiled sadly.

"Because he said some people deserve to know the difference they made."

Tears rolled down Linda's face.

Even Richard looked emotional.

Sarah continued.

"I searched for years."

She explained how she had hired investigators.

Looked through public records.

Searched old school documents.

Tracked addresses.

Followed countless dead ends.

"There were moments I thought I'd never find you."

Emily shook her head in disbelief.

"You did all that... for me?"

May you like

Sarah nodded.

"For the woman who gave me a future."
