PART 2: THE VIDEO SHE THOUGHT WAS DELETED

Ava stared at the phone screen long after Vanessa left the room.
The device felt heavier than it should have.
As if the truth itself weighed something.
Her fingers trembled while she opened the video folder.
For a terrifying second, she thought it was gone.
The screen appeared blank.
No recording.
No evidence.
Nothing.
Her heart nearly stopped.
"No..."
She frantically searched through the files.
Then suddenly she found it.
One video.
Twenty-three minutes long.
Hidden inside a backup folder.
Still there.
Still intact.
Tears filled her eyes.
Because this tiny file contained the only thing standing between her and complete destruction.
The truth.
Six days earlier, Ava had invited Vanessa to her home.
At the time, she still considered her a friend.
Maybe not her closest friend anymore.
But someone she trusted.
Someone she believed cared about her.
The evening had started normally.
Coffee.
Conversation.
Small talk.
Then Ava made a mistake.
She mentioned something she wasn't supposed to know.
A bank statement.
A strange transfer of money.
Thousands of dollars withdrawn from a family investment account that belonged to Ava's late father.
Money Vanessa had helped manage.
The atmosphere changed instantly.
Vanessa's smile disappeared.
Her face hardened.
And for the first time, Ava saw the real woman hiding beneath the mask.
"What bank statement?"
The question sounded calm.
Too calm.
Ava remembered feeling uneasy.
Very uneasy.
Fortunately, months earlier she had developed a habit.
Whenever discussions involved money or legal matters, she quietly recorded conversations.
Just in case.
That night she activated the camera on her phone and left it on the kitchen counter.
She never imagined it would save her life.
Back in the hospital room, Ava pressed play.
The recording began.
Vanessa appeared on the screen.
Standing in the kitchen.
Arms crossed.
Eyes cold.
The footage continued.
The argument escalated.
Questions became accusations.
Accusations became threats.
Then came the moment Ava could never forget.
Vanessa leaned forward.
Her voice low.
Dangerous.
"If you tell anyone what you found, you'll regret it."
Ava closed her eyes.
Even hearing it again made her shiver.
The recording continued.
Vanessa grabbed her arm.
Hard.
Painfully hard.
Ava tried to pull away.
Then came the shove.
The camera tilted violently.
A loud crash echoed through the speakers.
Glass shattered.
Ava screamed.
Then the video ended.
The room fell silent.
Ava sat frozen.
Watching the black screen.
Reliving every second.
But this time something felt different.
For the first time, she wasn't powerless.
For the first time, she had proof.
A soft knock interrupted her thoughts.
The nurse entered carrying medication.
She stopped when she noticed the phone.
"What are you watching?"
Ava hesitated.
Then made a decision.
"Can you close the door?"
The nurse looked confused.
But she complied.
Afterward, Ava handed her the phone.
"Please watch this."
The nurse frowned.
Then pressed play.
Three minutes later, the woman's face had turned completely pale.
She replayed part of the video.
Then replayed it again.
"Oh my God."
The words escaped before she could stop them.
Ava said nothing.
The nurse looked up.
Shock filled her eyes.
"Why didn't anyone tell us this?"
"Because nobody wanted to listen."
The nurse sat down slowly.
For several moments she simply stared at the phone.
Then she stood.
Determined.
"I'm calling hospital security."
Ava grabbed her wrist.
"No."
The nurse blinked.
"What?"
Ava swallowed.
"Call the police."
Thirty minutes later, two detectives arrived.
Detective Morgan and Detective Reeves.
Experienced investigators.
People who had seen almost everything.
Or so they thought.
They watched the recording in silence.
Neither interrupted.
Neither commented.
When the video ended, Detective Morgan leaned back in his chair.
His expression was grim.
"Has anyone else seen this?"
Ava shook her head.
"No."
"Not even your husband?"
"No."
The detectives exchanged a look.
A look Ava couldn't quite interpret.
Then Detective Reeves asked a question she wasn't expecting.
"Do you know why she attacked you?"
Ava frowned.
"What do you mean?"
The detective opened a folder.
Inside were financial records.
Property documents.
Corporate filings.
Evidence.
Lots of evidence.
Ava stared at them.
Confused.
Then Detective Morgan spoke.
"We've been investigating Vanessa Clarke for nearly eight months."
The room suddenly felt colder.
"What?"
The detective nodded.
"You're not the first person to accuse her of intimidation."
Ava's heart skipped a beat.
"There are others?"
"Several."
The realization hit her like a truck.
This wasn't about one argument.
One assault.
One bad friendship.
Something much larger was happening.
Something much darker.
Then Detective Morgan delivered the sentence that changed everything.
"The money your father left behind may have been stolen years ago."
Ava stared at him.
Unable to speak.
The detective continued.
"And we believe Vanessa knows exactly where it went."
For several seconds the room became silent.
Then another knock sounded at the door.
A sharp knock.
Urgent.
A uniformed officer stepped inside.
His expression was serious.
Very serious.
He looked directly at Detective Morgan.
"Sir."
"What is it?"
The officer swallowed.
"We just received a warrant."
Ava felt her pulse quicken.
"A warrant for who?"
The officer looked toward the phone still resting in Ava's hands.
Then toward the detectives.
Finally he answered.
"Vanessa Clarke."
And at that exact moment...
May you like
the woman who believed she had erased the truth had no idea that police were already on their way to find her.
