Chapter 7 - The Arrest & The Public Fall

Monday morning arrived like a thunderclap.
While Adrian sat in his empty penthouse, staring at frozen bank accounts and unanswered phone calls, the board of directors at Morgan Consulting Group convened for an emergency session.
Victoria represented my interests. Marcus voted with the independent shareholders.
Within forty-five minutes, the vote was unanimous. Adrian Morgan was stripped of his CEO title, removed from the board, and formally locked out of corporate systems.
At 11:00 a.m., federal investigators executed a search warrant on his office, seizing computers, financial records, and offshore documentation linked to tax evasion and corporate fraud.
My phone—now my personal, secure device—vibrated continuously with frantic messages from Adrian.
Adrian: Rachel, please. They locked me out of the building. The police are here. What is happening?Adrian: Please. You're my wife. You can't let them do this.Adrian: I’m sorry. I swear to god I’m sorry. Please talk to me.
I opened the chat window, tapped the options menu, and blocked his number forever.
Later that afternoon, my divorce petition—filed on grounds of severe domestic abuse, attempted manslaughter, and financial abandonment—was officially served to him by federal marshals as he stepped out of his office building in handcuffs.
The cameras from local news stations caught the entire thing. The footage of the once-untouchable corporate titan being led away in federal custody played on evening news broadcasts across Chicago.
My parents watched it from their cramped, rented apartment—having lost their deposit, their pride, and any remaining claim to my life. They tried calling Sarah’s phone, but Sarah blocked them without a second thought.
