On the small glass table beside me sat a fresh laptop, open to a clean financial ledger sheet for a new forensic consulting firm I had officially launched the previous month—Mercer & Associates Forensic Recovery.

I picked it up and tapped the screen. It was a secure notification from the state treasury department confirming the liquidation of Grant’s remaining corporate holdings and the final transfer of restitution funds to public victim advocacy networks.
The nightmare was officially closed. The accounts were balanced. The ledger was clear.
