Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

One year later.
The spring air was crisp, scented with blooming cherry blossoms and fresh rain.
We hosted my daughter’s eighth birthday party in our backyard. There was no grill smoke from indifferent guests, no wandering relatives gossiping in the corners, and certainly no toxic grandmother undermining my child’s self-worth.
Instead, the yard was filled with laughter, bubbles, and genuine warmth. Mia was manning the dessert table, helping the kids decorate cupcakes with colorful sprinkles and plenty of frosting—none of which ended up on anyone’s clothes, though everyone laughed freely just in case.
My daughter wore a new dress—not lavender this time, but a vibrant, sunlit yellow that matched her radiant smile. She ran across the grass, her curls bouncing, completely free of the shadow that had once tried to define her childhood.
I stood on the patio holding a cup of coffee, leaning against the wooden railing beside my husband. He wrapped an arm around my waist, pulling me close.
“You okay?” he asked softly, kissing the top of my head.
“Never better,” I smiled, watching our daughter blow out the candles on her cake while all her friends cheered.

The past was a closed chapter, written in ink that couldn't be changed, but the future belonged entirely to us. We had traded the heavy burden of keeping up appearances for the quiet, beautiful grace of real peace.
And for the first time in my life, the house was filled with nothing but light.
