The days following the broadcast were a blur of legal notices and social purgatory. The Vanes were no longer just a family; they were a cautionary tale. Julian and Clara, stripped of their vanity projects and high-society clout, were being sued by the very brands they had shilled for. The lawsuits were piling up, each one claiming the family’s public toxicity had ruined their market value.
I sat in my office, watching the bank accounts drain as the legal fees mounted. I felt a strange, hollow sensation in my chest. I had spent years romanticizing this moment, but standing in the center of the wreckage, I realized that hate is a heavy fuel.
