Chapter 7 - The Final Confrontation in Court

Two months later, the legal battle over the divorce and asset division reached its climax in a private chambers hearing in downtown Los Angeles.

Victoria’s legal team, funded by what little political capital Senator Sinclair could still muster, had filed a massive countersuit, claiming fraud, coercion, and demanding a staggering $50 million alimony settlement along with fifty percent equity in Cole Civil Engineering & Development Corp.

They thought I would settle out of court to avoid a messy public scandal.

They didn't know who they were dealing with.

Inside the wood-paneled courtroom, Judge Marcus Sterling sat behind the mahogany bench, reviewing the final forensic evidence binders submitted by my legal counsel.

Victoria sat at the defense table, wearing a somber black designer suit, looking thin and stressed. Gone was the arrogant society queen who had lorded over my mansion; her eyes were hard, fixed on me with pure, unadulterated venom. Senator Sinclair sat a few rows behind her, refusing to look me in the eye.

“Mr. Cole,” Judge Sterling said, adjusting his glasses and looking up from the thick stack of documents. “I have reviewed the primary trust deeds, the prenuptial clauses, and the digital surveillance forensics submitted by your security team.”

“Your Honor,” Victoria’s lead attorney stood up smoothly, adjusting his tie. “While there may have been domestic friction, Ms. Sinclair was subjected to an oppressive, isolated living environment designed by Mr. Cole to entrap her. Furthermore, the asset structures utilized by Mr. Cole represent a deliberate evasion of California community property laws—”

“Counsel,” Judge Sterling interrupted, his voice dry and authoritative. He held up a flash drive. “Do you know what is stored on this drive?”

Victoria’s lawyer blinked. “Um… financial disclosures, presumably?”

“No,” Judge Sterling said coldly. “It is security camera footage recovered from the estate’s perimeter servers. It records a series of events occurring on the afternoon of October 14th.”

Victoria’s face went instantly white. She froze in her seat, her breath hitching in her throat.

“Footage,” the judge continued, his eyes scanning the courtroom, “depicting Ms. Sinclair forcing an elderly woman—the defendant’s mother—to sit in the dirt near a dog kennel and consume leftover food scraps off a plastic plate while guests laughed.”

A collective murmur rippled through the courtroom. Senator Sinclair buried his face in his hands, realizing the absolute PR catastrophe his daughter had dragged him into.

“Furthermore,” Judge Sterling added, flipping a page, “the forensic audit proves conclusively that over the past twelve months, Ms. Sinclair systematically embezzled over $450,000 from the estate’s operational accounts to fund unauthorized personal expenditures, gambling debts, and private offshore accounts.”

Judge Sterling slammed his gavel down once. Bang.

“The court finds in favor of the petitioner, Ethan Cole. The prenuptial forfeiture clause is upheld in full. All counterclaims by the respondent are dismissed with prejudice. Due to documented financial fraud and malicious endangerment, Ms. Sinclair’s spousal support claim is denied entirely. Court adjourned.”

As the judge stood and walked back to his chambers, Victoria slumped forward into her hands, letting out a ragged, broken sob. Her society friends were gone. Her father’s political career was irreparably tainted. Her billions-dollar golden ticket had vanished into thin air, leaving her with nothing but the consequences of her own boundless cruelty.

I didn't look back at her as I walked out of the courtroom. She wasn't worth another second of my time.
