She began with a simple, calculated email to the firm’s lead auditor, a man named Marcus whom her mother had always treated with thinly veiled condescension. She didn't write an emotional diatribe. Instead, she provided a meticulously documented timeline of the firm’s "consulting fees"—funds that were being funneled into her mother’s private accounts under the guise of family expenses. It wasn't just about the cruelty; it was about the lack of integrity that allowed such cruelty to flourish.

Three hours after the initial phone call, the first domino fell. Marcus called back. His tone was professional, yet there was a tremor of shock in his voice. "Rachel, I’ve looked at these records. If this goes public, the board will have no choice but to launch an investigation."
