Chapter 4 - The Midnight Breach

The command center had been turned into a fortress. Victoria stood behind the central console, her face an impassive mask of stone, though her eyes betrayed the hurricane within. When Daniel burst through the door, clutching the drive, he saw that the room was already under siege.

"They’re coming through the main ventilation shafts," Sterling reported, his voice tight. "We’re cut off from the outside world. The cell signals are being jammed."

"They know we have the files," Daniel said, sliding the drive across the console. "Mercer isn't just trying to acquire your company; he’s trying to erase your existence. He has a team in the maintenance tunnels."

Victoria took the drive and plugged it in. Her eyes scanned the code, the spreadsheets, and the correspondence. Her expression turned from cold to something entirely more terrifying—a look of pure, unadulterated vengeance. "He’s been planning this since the funeral for my husband," she said. "He was waiting for the right moment of weakness."

"We don't have time for the autopsy of your past, Victoria," Daniel snapped, dragging a barricade across the door as the sound of boots echoed in the hallway. "We have to fight our way to the sub-basement. There’s a satellite uplink in the old bunker. If we can bypass his jammer, we can broadcast this to the SEC and the news outlets."

The doors shuddered under the impact of a hydraulic ram. The metal groaned, the rivets popping like gunfire.

"They have heavy equipment," Sterling noted, his hand gripping his holster.

"Then we have to be heavier," Daniel said, picking up a heavy tactical rifle from the rack. "Victoria, you take the rear. Sterling, you're with me. We don't defend this room—we force them back into the hallway."

The breach came in a flash of blinding light and deafening noise. Daniel didn't hesitate. He was a whirlwind of movement, firing with a precision that turned the hallway into a gauntlet. He and Victoria fought in a rhythm that would have seemed impossible to anyone else—her cold, calculated strategy guiding his lethal efficiency.

They were surrounded, trapped in the corridors of their own home, but as the smoke cleared, Daniel saw the fire in Victoria’s eyes. She wasn't just a billionaire; she was a survivor. They fought through the kitchen, through the servant’s passage, and into the dark, labyrinthine guts of the estate.

With every step, they weren't just saving a company; they were reclaiming the life they had been told to surrender. And as they reached the bunker door, Daniel knew that the morning sun would either see them dead or see them victorious. There was no middle ground left.
