PART 2 — The Secret My Father Had Been Waiting to Expose

For the first time that morning, Jacob looked uncertain.
The smug smile disappeared from his face.
Just for a second.
But my father saw it.
And so did I.
The church remained frozen in silence.
No music.
No whispers.
No movement.
More than two hundred guests sat staring at us beneath the stained-glass windows.
Waiting.
Watching.
Trying to understand what had just happened.
Jacob forced a laugh.
"Mr. Parker, I think you're overreacting."
My father didn't blink.
"Am I?"
Jacob spread his hands casually.
"It was an argument."
His eyes flicked toward me.
"A misunderstanding."
My father stepped between us.
A simple movement.
Yet somehow it felt like a wall being built.
"No man who loves a woman leaves fingerprints on her face."
The words landed like a hammer.
A murmur spread through the crowd.
I felt my chest tighten.
For months I had been making excuses.
For months I had convinced myself things weren't that bad.
Hearing someone say it out loud made it impossible to hide from the truth.
Jacob's mother suddenly stood up from the front row.
"Now wait just a minute."
Her voice cut through the room.
She marched forward in her designer suit.
Perfect hair.
Perfect makeup.
Perfect smile.
The smile disappeared the moment she reached us.
"This is a family matter."
"No," my father replied.
He didn't raise his voice.
He didn't need to.
"The moment my daughter walked into this church covered in bruises, it became everyone's business."
More whispers.
More shocked faces.
Several guests were now openly staring at the marks on my face.
Marks I had spent hours trying to conceal.
Jacob's father joined his wife.
The powerful businessman everyone admired.
The man whose name appeared on hospitals, schools, and charity buildings.
"Let's calm down."
My father turned toward him.
"Did you know?"
The question hung in the air.
Jacob's father hesitated.
Only briefly.
But it was enough.
My stomach dropped.
Because suddenly I knew.
He knew.
His mother knew.
They had always known.
Jacob's father adjusted his tie.
"Young couples argue."
A collective gasp swept through the church.
My father stared at him.
Then slowly nodded.
"I see."
His expression grew even colder.
"You knew."
"It wasn't serious."
My father's jaw tightened.
"Not serious?"
He pointed toward my face.
"My daughter was assaulted."
"It was one mistake."
"One mistake?"
The words echoed through the sanctuary.
My father looked around the room.
Then he laughed.
A short, humorless laugh.
"Interesting."
Very slowly, he reached into the inside pocket of his suit jacket.
Jacob suddenly went pale.
"Don't."
My father stopped.
"Don't what?"
Jacob took a step forward.
For the first time all morning, genuine fear appeared in his eyes.
"Don't do this."
And that's when I realized something.
This wasn't just about me anymore.
There was something else.
Something bigger.
My father pulled out a thick manila envelope.
The church grew silent again.
Every eye followed it.
Jacob looked like he might faint.
His mother grabbed his arm.
"What is he talking about?"
Jacob didn't answer.
My father opened the envelope.
Inside were documents.
Photographs.
Police reports.
Court records.
Years' worth of secrets.
"I hired a private investigator three months ago."
The room exploded with whispers.
My heart stopped.
Three months?
He had known something was wrong for three months?
My father looked at me.
His expression softened briefly.
"I started noticing changes."
Tears filled my eyes.
"You stopped laughing."
I swallowed hard.
"You stopped calling as often."
His voice cracked.
"And every time I hugged you, you flinched."
The church disappeared around me.
For a moment there was only my father.
The one person who had noticed what I couldn't admit.
Then his attention returned to Jacob.
And his face hardened.
"What I found shocked even me."
He lifted the first photograph.
A woman appeared in the image.
Young.
Bruised.
Terrified.
I had never seen her before.
"Who is that?" someone whispered.
Jacob closed his eyes.
As if he already knew what was coming.
"Her name is Rachel Simmons."
The church fell silent.
My father held up another photograph.
Then another.
And another.
Different women.
Same bruises.
Same fear.
The same story.
My blood turned to ice.
"What is this?"
My voice barely emerged.
My father looked at me.
Then answered gently.
"Women Jacob dated before you."
The room erupted.
People stood.
Gasps echoed off the walls.
Someone dropped a glass.
The sound shattered across the floor.
"No."
I shook my head.
"No..."
My father handed me one of the reports.
My hands trembled.
I read the words.
Police complaint.
Domestic violence.
Case dismissed.
Another complaint.
Dropped.
Another.
Withdrawn.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Five women.
Five separate allegations.
Over seven years.
Jacob finally snapped.
"They were lying!"
His voice thundered through the church.
"All of them!"
Nobody looked convinced.
Not anymore.
Not after seeing my face.
Not after seeing the evidence.
Not after watching his parents desperately avoid eye contact.
Then my father revealed the final document.
And suddenly even Jacob's parents looked terrified.
"What is that?"
Jacob whispered.
My father stared directly at him.
"The one thing I was hoping I'd never find."
Slowly, he unfolded the paper.
"It turns out your family has been paying women to stay silent for years."
The room exploded.
His mother nearly collapsed.
His father looked ready to run.
And for the first time in his life...
Jacob looked completely trapped.
May you like
Because the wedding wasn't ending anymore.
His entire family was.
