Chapter 6 - The Trap Sprung on the Traitor

While the family wing found a fragile, hard-earned peace, down in the subterranean bunkers beneath the estate, the war was far from over.
The secure communications room—a windowless vault lined with copper mesh to block all external signals—hummed with the frantic activity of four cyber-security experts tapping away at glowing mechanical keyboards.
Tony stood over the shoulder of the lead tech analyst, his arms crossed over his chest, his face dark and impassive.
"Status on the Rossi syndicate network?" Tony demanded.
"We’ve intercepted their primary encrypted comm-link, Captain," the tech replied rapidly, his fingers flying across the keys. "They’re expecting a confirmation ping from Dominic Moretti by midnight. They think the bomb went off. They're already mobilizing backup units in Brooklyn to move on our shipping lanes while the estate is in chaos."
"Good," Tony said, a cold, predatory smile touching the corners of his mouth. "Send the confirmation ping."
"Sir?" the tech blinked, hesitating. "Send the confirmation? But the bomb didn't go—"
"Send the exact cryptographic signature Dominic was supposed to use," Tony interrupted, his voice dropping into an absolute command. "Tell them the package was delivered, the target is eliminated, and the northern docks are ripe for a midnight takeover."
The tech swallowed hard, turned back to his screen, and executed the command packet.
Sent. Encrypted handshake accepted by target server.
Across town, in a fortified warehouse in the industrial district of Brooklyn, Viktor Rossi—the silver-haired, ruthless head of the Rossi syndicate—sat behind a steel desk, staring at his tactical terminal. When the digital confirmation ping flashed green on his screen, a triumphant, ugly grin spread across his face.
"It's done," Rossi muttered to his top lieutenant, a scarred enforcer named Vinnie. "Vittorio Rinaldi is dead. His entire family is wiped out in one stroke. Move our entire strike force to the northern docks. Take everything they have before the other syndicates realize the king is gone."
Within ten minutes, three heavily armed convoys of unmarked vans loaded with forty elite mercenaries rolled out of the Brooklyn warehouse, heading north toward the riverfront shipping yards under the cover of a thick midnight fog.
They thought they were walking into a vacuum.
They thought they were claiming an empire.
They had no idea they were walking straight into an open grave.
Back in the subterranean vault of the Rinaldi estate, Vittorio stood before a massive live tactical map displaying every square foot of the northern docks. He watched the red blips representing the Rossi convoy moving steadily along the highway toward the river.
"They're taking the bait, Boss," Tony reported, walking up behind him. "All three strike teams are converging on Pier 42. Our snipers and tactical units are locked and loaded. Perimeter mines are armed."

Vittorio watched the red blips move closer and closer to the trap. His face was carved from absolute stone.
"Let them reach the center of the pier," Vittorio commanded softly. "And then... close the box."
