Chapter 9 - The Hammer of Justice
Six months after the incident in Belle Meade, the final court hearing for Calloway v. Redmond took place.
The judge, the Honorable Sarah Jenkins—a tough, no-nonsense family court judge known for her zero-tolerance policy toward domestic harassment—sat on the bench.
Janelle Redmond sat at the defense table. She was wearing a plain gray business suit, her hair pulled back into a tight, simple bun. Her arrogant demeanor was completely gone, replaced by a sullen, bitter rage.
Judge Jenkins reviewed the final master file, clicking her pen against the wooden bench.
“Mrs. Redmond,” Judge Jenkins said, her voice echoing clearly through the courtroom. “In my twenty-five years on the bench, I have seen many family disputes. But the video evidence submitted in this case is one of the most appalling displays of premeditated humiliation I have ever witnessed.”
Janelle tried to speak up. “Your Honor, it was a joke—”
Slam!
Judge Jenkins brought her gavel down hard.
“Do not interrupt me, Mrs. Redmond!” Judge Jenkins barked. “Holding a pet collar over a five-week-old newborn infant and telling a decorated military officer that her child needs to 'learn her place' is not a joke. It is verbal abuse, emotional harassment, and a clear demonstration of malicious intent.”
Judge Jenkins picked up her pen to sign the official decrees.
“The court hereby approves the final divorce decree between Captain Gwen Calloway and Samuel Redmond. Full sole legal and physical custody of the minor child, Anya Calloway, is granted exclusively to the mother.”
Judge Jenkins looked directly at Janelle.
“Furthermore, the court issues a Permanent Restraining Order against Janelle Redmond. You are prohibited from coming within one thousand yards of Captain Calloway, her daughter, her residence, or any military facility where she is stationed. Any violation will result in immediate felony arrest and jail time.”
Finally, the judge signed the financial order.
“Regarding the civil fraud claim: Janelle Redmond is ordered to pay full restitution in the amount of $180,000 to Captain Calloway for the unauthorized conversion of military pay, plus $45,000 in legal fees.”
Slam!
“Court is adjourned.”
Janelle sat frozen in her seat as her attorney leaned over to whisper the devastating reality to her: she had thirty days to pay $225,000, or her personal assets would be seized by the county sheriff.
Across the courtroom, I stood up, smoothing down my blazer.

I looked at my father, who was sitting in the front row. He smiled at me—a warm, proud smile that washed away every lingering shadow of the past year.
We walked out of the courthouse together, into the warm Tennessee sunshine.
