Chapter 8 - Dawn of a New Dynasty

The sun rose over the Atlantic, painting the sky in brilliant strokes of gold, crimson, and violet. The blood on the estate’s marble floors had already been washed away, leaving the mansion as pristine and untouchable as it had always been.
In the private garden behind the east wing, the morning air was crisp and smelled of salt and freshly cut grass.
Annie sat on a velvet-cushioned white wicker chair, wearing a little ivory dress that had been rushed in by a private courier from Fifth Avenue. She was happily feeding bits of croissant to a fluffy white Persian cat that had somehow wandered out from the conservatory.
Ruth Bennett sat nearby, wrapped in a cashmere shawl, sipping black tea, her breathing clear and easy for the first time in years.
Aleandro walked out onto the stone patio, his black suit jacket draped over his arm, his white shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows. He looked different—not softer, exactly, but anchored. The hollow, restless void that had driven him to conquer half the criminal underworld for a decade had finally been filled.
He walked up behind Annie’s chair and knelt down on one knee so he was eye-level with her.
"Do you like your new home, Annie?" he asked softly.
The little girl turned her head, her big brown eyes studying him with that familiar, unnerving steadiness. Then, slowly, a small, bright smile broke across her face—the first real smile he had ever seen from her.
"It's nice, sir," she said, before tilting her head. "Are you going to go away again?"
Aleandro reached out, gently brushing a stray lock of dark hair behind her ear. The gesture was so tender, so completely un-mafia-like, that Ruth smiled softly from across the table.
"Never," Aleandro answered, his voice firm, carrying the absolute weight of an oath that could never be broken. "From now on, I'm not going anywhere."
He stood up, looking out over the endless expanse of the ocean where his ships sailed and his empire stretched into the horizon. He was still Aleandro Castellano—the most feared crime lord on the Eastern Seaboard, the master of shadows, the ruler of an underworld built on blood and steel.
