Chapter 10 - A New Dawn at the Duca Estate

Spring returned to Westchester County with a sudden, breathtaking burst of green. The snow melted from the rolling lawns, replaced by fields of yellow daffodils and blooming pink dogwoods that lined the winding stone driveways of the Duca estate.

The iron gates remained open during the afternoon sunlight, welcoming visitors, medical specialists, tutors, and trusted friends. The cold, forbidding stone walls of the mansion seemed softer now, draped in climbing ivy and warmed by the laughter of a child running across the sunlit corridors.

In the center of the grand courtyard, beneath the ancient marble fountain where sparkling water caught the morning light, a small, private gathering was taking place.

There were no reporters, no council elders, and no politicians. Only Tom Rizzo, a handful of trusted staff members, and Pino the Doberman acting as an unofficial ringbearer with a white silk bow tied clumsily around his massive collar.

Clara Whitmore wore a simple, elegant ivory dress that swept gently against the stone flags, her dark hair woven with fresh spring flowers.

Lorenzo Duca stood waiting for her beneath the stone archway, dressed in a sharp dark suit without a tie, his stern features softened by an expression of absolute, unreserved devotion.

As Clara walked toward him, her hand resting trustingly inside his, Emma skipped beside them holding a basket of rose petals, scattering them across the path with intense, childish concentration.

“Do you take this woman,” the magistrate officiating the quiet ceremony began, “to share your life, your home, and your heart through all the days to come?”

Lorenzo looked down into Clara’s warm brown eyes, his voice steady, resonant, and filled with a profound peace he had never expected to find.

“I do,” Lorenzo said.

When the vows were spoken and the simple gold band slipped onto Clara’s finger, Lorenzo pulled her gently against his chest and kissed her—not with the cold authority of a mafia boss ruling an empire, but with the fierce, enduring tenderness of a man who had finally found his true home.

Emma cheered, throwing her remaining rose petals straight up into the air as Pino let out a sharp, happy bark that echoed across the gardens.

Lorenzo scooped Emma up with one arm, pulling Clara close with the other, and walked down the stone path toward the sunlit mansion. The dark empire of fear and shadows belonged to yesterday. Today, the Duca estate belonged to family, to love, and to an unbreakable dawn.
