Chapter 5 - Rebuilding the Foundation

The following weeks were a whirlwind. The news of the "billionaire’s breakup" dominated the headlines for days, but Caleb didn't feed the press. Instead, he turned his focus inward. He audited his company’s treatment of employees, instituted fair-wage policies across all his properties, and spent his weekends actually talking to the people who worked for him.

He grew close to Grace, not as a boss and housekeeper, but as a person. They bonded over long nights of coffee and strategy—Caleb writing in his brown leather journal, Grace helping him navigate the human side of his business. He learned about her struggle, her pride, and her fierce love for her daughter.

One evening, he found her in the garden, trimming the very roses she had been tending to the day he overheard her mentioning the journal.

"Grace," he said, standing beside her. "I don't want you to be my housekeeper anymore."

Grace felt her stomach drop. "I understand, Mr. Westbrook. I’ll clear out my things by tomorrow."

"No," he interrupted, smiling. "I want you to be the head of my new charitable foundation. I want you to manage the outreach for the employees. You know better than anyone what people need to feel respected. You’re the smartest, most compassionate person I’ve ever met."

Grace stared at him, the garden tools hanging loosely in her hand. "You’re offering me a career?"

"I’m offering you a seat at the table," he said. "Because you were the only one who didn't care that I was a billionaire."
