Chapter 8 - A New Dawn
The guests had long since departed, leaving the grand ballroom wrapped in the gentle, soothing hush of midnight.
The spring breeze drifted softly through the open French doors, carrying the sweet scent of blooming jasmine from the estate gardens.
Upstairs, Lily was fast asleep in her nursery, her small hand curled peacefully around the worn fabric of her cloth rabbit, completely unaware of the multi-billion-dollar empire and the fierce, protective love that stood guard over her sleep.
Downstairs, Ethan and Rosa stood alone in the parlor.
The grand piano sat quietly beneath the moonlight, its polished ebony surface reflecting the twinkling stars outside.
Ethan reached out, taking Rosa’s hand in his, and led her toward the keys. He sat down on the bench, pulling her down beside him so they shared the exact same seat where everything had so nearly shattered months ago.
“Do you remember the song you used to hum in that little diner in Queens?” Ethan asked softly, his fingers hovering over the ivory keys.
Rosa smiled, her eyes shining in the moonlight. “The one about the rain stopping before dawn?”
“That’s the one.”
Ethan began to play.
It wasn't a complex, thunderous concerto designed to impress a room full of critics or investors. It was simple, gentle, and unhurried—a melody born from patience, survival, and a love that had weathered the harshest winter and blossomed into spring.
Rosa joined in, humming the familiar notes softly in the quiet room.
As the final chord faded away into the night air, Ethan turned toward her, cupping her face gently in his palm.
“Thank you for not giving up on me, Rosa,” he whispered.
“I didn't give up on us, Ethan,” she replied, leaning her forehead gently against his. “Some truths take time to find their way into the light.”
