Chapter 1: Know Your Place

The Crystal Crown Ballroom glittered with luxury.

Hundreds of guests filled the hall.

Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling.

A live orchestra played softly in the background.

The wedding of Sophia Hart and Ethan Blake was being called the social event of the year.

Sophia stood proudly in her designer wedding gown.

Her mother, Victoria Hart, moved through the crowd greeting wealthy guests and influential business partners.

Everything was perfect.

Until a cleaning woman accidentally walked into the ballroom.

She appeared to be around sixty years old.

Her gray uniform was simple and worn.

A cleaning cart rattled behind her.

She kept her head lowered as she quietly picked up a broken wine glass near one of the tables.

Unfortunately for her, Sophia noticed.

The bride's face twisted with irritation.

"Excuse me!"

The music paused.

The entire room turned.

Sophia pointed directly at the cleaning woman.

"Who allowed staff into the wedding photos?"

The woman immediately bowed her head.

"I'm sorry, ma'am. I was only cleaning the spill."

Victoria marched over.

Her expensive heels clicked sharply against the marble floor.

"Do you have any idea how important this event is?"

The cleaning woman apologized again.

But Victoria wasn't finished.

Guests began watching.

Some were amused.

Others pulled out phones.

The cleaning woman tried to leave.

Suddenly, one of the groomsmen blocked her path.

The crowd laughed.

Sophia smirked.

"At least look at her shoes," she said loudly.

More laughter followed.

The woman's old shoes were worn and stained from years of work.

Victoria stepped forward and grabbed the cleaning cart.

"You people should stay where you belong."

Then she shoved it.

The cart slammed into the woman.

She lost her balance.

And fell hard onto the marble floor.

The hall erupted with laughter.

Several guests clapped.

Sophia folded her arms.

"Know your place, servant."

The woman remained on the floor.

Silent.

Motionless.

Then something strange happened.

Ethan Blake, the groom, suddenly saw her face clearly.

His smile disappeared.

All color drained from his face.

The champagne glass slipped from his hand and shattered.

The laughter stopped.

Everyone stared.

"Ethan?" Sophia asked.

He didn't answer.

His eyes remained locked on the cleaning woman.

A look of absolute horror spread across his face.

Then, to everyone's shock, he ran across the ballroom.

And dropped to his knees.

Right in front of her.

"Madam Chairwoman..."

His voice trembled.

"Please forgive us."

The room went silent.

Completely silent.

Sophia's smile vanished.

Victoria stumbled backward.

"What... what did you just say?"

The cleaning woman slowly lifted her head.

For the first time, everyone saw her eyes.

Calm.

Powerful.

Unshaken.

The kind of eyes that belonged to someone who had spent a lifetime giving orders, not taking them.

Then she slowly stood.

Looked around the room.

May you like

And whispered five words that changed everything.

"This wedding is canceled."
