Chapter 5 - The Medical Impossibility

The Montenegro estate was transformed into a chaotic medical command center within the hour. Armando didn't trust the local hospitals; he brought the hospital to the mansion. Three of the world's leading neurologists and an ENT specialist were flown in via private helicopter, setting up an array of diagnostic equipment in the grand library.
Through it all, Camila sat on an oversized leather chair, looking remarkably calm, quietly humming to herself. Humming. The sound was so beautiful it brought the household staff to tears every time they walked past the room.
The doctors poked, prodded, scanned, and scoped. They ran MRIs, vocal cord endoscopies, and neurological mapping. Hours later, they stood in the study, looking at Armando with expressions ranging from absolute bewilderment to professional existential dread.
"Mr. Montenegro," Dr. Aris, the chief neurologist, began, rubbing his temples. "There is... no medical precedent for this. The paralysis in her vocal cords is entirely gone. The synaptic pathways in her brain, which were previously dormant, are firing with the baseline activity of a healthy child. Her throat is slightly irritated—likely the 'burning' she described—but structurally, she is flawless."
"Are you telling me she is cured?" Armando asked, his voice a low, dangerous rumble. He had spent hundreds of millions on these men, and they had done nothing. A barefoot girl in a park had done in five seconds what modern science could not do in six years.
"We are telling you," the doctor corrected nervously, "that we have no scientific explanation for her condition ever existing, nor for its sudden remission."
Armando dismissed them with a wave of his hand. He walked into the library, where Camila was now chattering away, pointing at pictures in a book and saying the words aloud, reveling in the feeling of the vibrations in her throat. He knelt beside her, pulling her into a fierce embrace, listening to her say "I love you" for the first time in his life.
But as the initial euphoria settled, a new, burning obsession took hold of Armando’s mind.
He stood up and walked to the security office in the west wing. The head of his detail looked up, pale and nervous.
"The girl," Armando demanded, his tone leaving no room for negotiation. "Where is the girl?"

"Sir, in the chaos of Camila... of the incident, we secured her in one of the holding rooms near the garage. We didn't want to hand her over to the police until we knew what the substance was."
"Take me to her."
