Chapter 10 - A New Horizon

The cleanup was swift and merciless. Thorne was arrested in the middle of a press conference, his face a portrait of shattered arrogance. Vance Dynamics was returned to Eleanor’s control, but she wasn't the same woman—and neither was Garrett.

A month later, the sun was shining over the Millerstown Diner. It looked exactly the same, but the atmosphere felt different. The coffee was still mediocre, but for Garrett, it was the best cup of his life.

He pulled his truck into the parking lot. He wasn't wearing an oil-stained hoodie anymore; he wore a clean jacket, and his arm had healed. He walked in, holding a small, brightly wrapped gift for Lily.

Eleanor was already sitting in the corner booth. She looked radiant, her chrome cane resting against the table. She had spent the last few weeks restructuring her company to prioritize the very neural-link technology that had nearly killed them, ensuring it would only be used for healing.

"You're late," she smiled.

"I had to drop my daughter off at school," Garrett replied, sliding into the booth. "She's doing great. She’s not afraid anymore."

"Neither am I," Eleanor said, handing him an envelope. It wasn't a mission brief. It was a formal invitation to head the security and humanitarian wing of her foundation. "I don't need a bodyguard, Garrett. I need a partner. Someone who knows that the hardest battles are the ones we fight for other people."

Garrett looked at the offer, then out the window at his truck, and finally at Eleanor. He thought of the shop, the cot in the back, and the nights he spent terrified for the future. Those nights were gone.

He didn't need to be a hero anymore. He just needed to be a man who showed up, stood his ground, and made sure the good guys won. He picked up his coffee, clinked his mug against Eleanor’s, and smiled.

"I'm in," he said.

The story of the SEAL and the billionaire was a legend, but for them, it was just the beginning of a life where they no longer had to hide from the dark. They had walked through the fire, and they had come out, together, into the light.
