Chapter 10 - The New Dawn

Three Years Later.
The morning sun washed over the sun-drenched courtyard of the Vale estate in Long Island, turning the Atlantic waves into sparkling diamonds.
The high iron security gates were still there, protecting the home from the dangers of the outside world, but inside, the fortress had truly become a home. The gardens were filled with colorful flowers planted by Hannah’s own hands. The rooms echoed with laughter, warmth, and the patter of tiny footsteps.
In the center of the lawn, a three-year-old boy with dark, curly hair and his father’s sharp eyes was running in circles, laughing hysterically as a golden retriever puppy chased a tennis ball.
“Lucas! Slow down before you trip over the sprinkler!”
Hannah walked out onto the stone patio carrying a tray of freshly baked cinnamon rolls dripping with vanilla glaze, her apron tied neatly around her waist.
Adrian stepped out behind her, wearing a casual navy sweater, carrying a steaming mug of coffee in one hand while wrapping his other arm securely around Hannah’s waist, pulling her back against his chest.
“He has too much energy,” Adrian murmured, pressing a warm kiss against her temple. “Must get it from his mother.”
“His mother is exhausted just watching him,” Hannah laughed, leaning back against him with complete contentment.
Across the lawn, a sleek black sedan pulled up the driveway, and a smiling, healthy-looking young woman stepped out holding a small gift basket. It was Theresa’s niece, who now helped manage the estate’s daily operations, but today she was just a welcome guest.
“Your bakery delivery just arrived from the city, boss,” Theresa called out from the doorway, holding a stack of morning newspapers.
The headline on the front page of the financial daily read: VALE ENTERPRISES ANNOUNCES MAJOR PHILANTHROPIC INITIATIVE FOR CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS ACROSS NEW YORK.
Adrian glanced at the headline, then looked down at the woman standing in his arms—the grieving baker who had walked into his darkest night and brought the sun back with her.
“You know,” Adrian whispered, gently turning her around so she faced him, his dark eyes shining with adoration. “You’ve completely ruined my reputation as a ruthless mafia boss.”
Hannah smiled, reaching up to adjust the collar of his sweater. “Good. Ruthless bosses don't make very good fathers or husbands.”
“Husband, huh?” Adrian raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile playing on his lips. “I don't remember you officially signing that contract yet, Mrs. Vale.”

“Oh, I think,” Hannah whispered, leaning in close as Lucas ran up to wrap his little arms around Adrian’s leg, “the terms were agreed upon a long time ago.”
Adrian laughed, picking Lucas up with one strong arm and pulling Hannah close with the other, standing together in the brilliant morning light where the ghosts of the past had finally been laid to rest, and a bright, beautiful future had finally begun.
