Chapter 7 - The Final Reckoning

Behind them, in the doorway of the cell, Pierce dragged Nolan forward and shoved him onto his knees beside the iron cot.

Lydia pulled back slightly, her gray eyes hardening with a fierce, unforgiving light as she looked down at the man who had stolen two years of her life and tried to murder her child.

Nolan cowered away from her gaze, babbling incoherently. “Lydia... please. I was pressured. It was the syndicate board—they forced me—!”

“Shut up, Nolan,” Gideon said, standing up slowly.

He didn't execute him in the cell. Execution was too clean for a traitor who traded family for ambition.

Instead, Gideon had Nolan stripped of his wealth, his corporate titles, and his freedom. By sunrise, federal prosecutors—woke up by emergency packages containing the audit ledgers, nurse Evelyn’s digital confession, and corporate wire transfer receipts—had issued unbailable arrest warrants for Nolan Mercer and every corrupt board member linked to San Cristobal.

Nolan was led out of the sanitarium in handcuffs and leg irons, cameras flashing as the media caught the downfall of the golden boy of the Chicago underworld. He would spend the rest of his natural life in a maximum-security federal penitentiary, surrounded by the very men he had once tried to exploit.
