Chapter 10 - Dawn Over Ravensport

By afternoon, the executive offices on the top floor of Vale Maritime had returned to an eerie, immaculate calm.
The missing cargo had been recovered from Silas Harrow’s southern warehouses. The federal subpoenas had been quietly neutralized by Evelyn Price before they ever reached a public docket. The internal leak had been cauterized, leaving the corporate structure leaner, sharper, and entirely unassailable.
Dominic stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows of his office, looking down at the bustling activity along the Ravensport docks below.
A soft knock tapped against the heavy oak door.
“Come in,” Dominic said without turning around.
The door opened quietly. Claire stepped into the office. She had changed into a fresh blouse, her hair neatly tied back, holding a small leather folder containing the morning correspondence.
For a moment, neither of them spoke. The memory of the phone call from the Neon Harbor Club—the desperate whisper in the dark, the splintering bathroom door, the terror in her voice—still hung in the air between them, changing everything without a single word needing to be said.
“The board meeting with the municipal contractors has been rescheduled for tomorrow morning,” Claire said, her voice steady and professional, though a faint, warm smile touched the corners of her mouth. “Evelyn confirmed that all the asset transfers from North Point have cleared legal review.”
Dominic turned away from the window and walked slowly across the room until he was standing just a few feet away from her desk.
“And how are you feeling?” Dominic asked, his gray eyes softening as he looked down at her. “Are you sure you shouldn't have taken the rest of the week off?”
Claire looked up, meeting his gaze directly. The invisible boundary that had kept them apart for four years—the rigid line between boss and secretary—was gone, replaced by something far deeper, forged in fire and absolute loyalty.
“I’m right where I need to be,” Claire said softly.

Dominic held her gaze for a long moment, a rare, genuine smile touching his lips.
Outside, the sun broke fully through the clouds, casting a brilliant, golden light across the Ravensport waterfront, shining down on an empire that was finally, truly secure.
