Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Three months later, the sun streamed brightly through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the Draven penthouse overlooking Hyde Park, warming the polished oak floors and filling the spacious rooms with life.

The heavy, oppressive silence that had haunted the penthouse since the death of Viktor’s wife was gone, replaced by the sound of running footsteps, barking, and uncontrollable laughter.

In the massive gourmet kitchen, Rosie—dressed in a warm cashmere sweater and clean sneakers that actually fit her feet—stood by the marble island, carefully frosting a chocolate birthday cake with the help of Leo Jr., who was covered in powdered sugar from head to toe.

"More sprinkles!" Leo demanded, shaking a container so hard half of them landed on the floor.

"If you put any more sprinkles on this cake, it’s going to collapse under its own weight," Rosie laughed, nudging him playfully with her elbow.

By the doorway, stretched out lazily on a plush designer dog bed, Shadow gnawed contentedly on a giant beef bone, his coat brushed and shining, looking every bit the pampered king of the castle he had secretly always known he was.

Viktor walked into the kitchen, dressed in a sharp, tailored charcoal suit, his morning coffee in hand. He stopped by the island, watching the two children bicker happily over the pastry bag.

He didn't look like a feared mafia boss anymore. He looked like what he had always wanted to be: a father.

"If you two finish decorating that cake before breakfast," Viktor said with a mock-serious frown, "I might have to confiscate the first slice."

"You wouldn't dare!" Rosie grinned, turning around to face him, her eyes bright and filled with a security she had never known possible in her short life.

"Try me," Viktor smiled, leaning down to press a warm kiss to the top of her head.

He walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out over the sprawling, beautiful expanse of London shining in the morning light. The streets down below were still dangerous, still full of secrets, betrayal, and power struggles. The underground world would always test him, always watch him, always wait for a moment of weakness.

But as he listened to the sound of his children laughing behind him and the soft thump of Shadow’s tail hitting the floor, Viktor Draven knew one thing with absolute certainty:

No one would ever touch his family again.
