Chapter 10 - A Peaceful Sunset

Spring had finally arrived in Chicago, washing the city in vibrant green and warm, golden light.
On the stone patio overlooking the shimmering waters of Lake Michigan, Martha Ashworth sat comfortably in a padded rocking chair, a woolen blanket draped over her knees, sipping chamomile tea.
Beside her, Nora sat on a matching lounge chair, sketching designs for her new downtown bakery in a small leather notebook.
And stretched out across the warm patio stones, soaking up the afternoon sun, was Moose.
Cole stepped out through the glass sliding doors, holding a fresh cup of coffee. He walked over, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of his mother’s head before leaning against the stone balustrade, looking out at the endless horizon.
Martha looked up at him, her blue eyes shining with quiet pride.
“You’ve built quite a kingdom, Cole,” she said softly, a gentle smile playing on her lips.

Cole looked down at her, then over at Nora, and finally at the loyal dog sleeping peacefully at their feet.
“It’s not a kingdom, Ma,” Cole replied, his voice calm and steady as the lake before him. “It’s just a home.”
