Chapter 10 - The House of Life

One year later.

The Moretti estate on the North Shore of Long Island was no longer known as the cold, silent fortress of a reclusive crime boss.

It had become a place of life, warmth, and vibrant color.

The garden behind the ivy wall was now a breathtaking sea of golden sunflowers, their massive yellow heads turning toward the bright summer sun. Pathways of smooth river stone wound through the flowers, leading to a wooden gazebo where a grand piano stood overlooking the water.

At six o'clock on a warm summer evening, the sound of classical piano music drifted across the manicured lawns.

Alessandro sat at the piano bench, his long fingers moving effortlessly over the ivory keys, playing a rich, uplifting concerto.

Beside the gazebo, sitting on a wooden bench under the oak tree, was Sophia.

She wore a beautiful white summer dress, her hair flowing soft over her shoulders. She was no longer an employee of the estate; six months ago, Alessandro had asked her to step into his life as his partner, his companion, and the woman who had brought light back into his darkened world.

Playing among the tall sunflowers were four-year-old Emma and her new little golden retriever puppy, running and laughing as the puppy chased butterflies through the golden stalks.

The music reached its soft, peaceful conclusion.

Alessandro lifted his hands from the keys, letting the final note fade into the warm evening air.

He stood up, walked out of the gazebo, and wrapped his arms around Sophia’s waist from behind, resting his chin gently on her shoulder as they watched Emma play.

"She's growing so fast," Sophia whispered, leaning back against his chest, her hand resting over his.

"She is," Alessandro agreed softly, kissing her cheek. "She's a miracle, Sophia. Both of you are."

Emma ran over to them, her cheeks flush with heat and excitement, holding a gigantic, blooming sunflower in her hands.

"Look, Daddy!" Emma cheered, holding the flower up high. "Look how big it grew!"

Alessandro smiled, dropping to one knee and pulling the little girl into a warm, tight embrace.

Daddy.

She had started calling him that three months ago, a title he cherished more than any rank, honor, or territory he possessed in the underworld.

Alessandro looked up past the tall golden sunflowers, toward the clear evening sky where the first evening stars were beginning to appear above the Long Island Sound.

He held his family tight against his heart, feeling the warm summer breeze rustle through the leaves, carrying with it a quiet, eternal promise that love had finally won.

The stone had broken.

May you like

The ghost was at peace.

And the garden was full of life.
