Chapter 5 - The Glass House

She didn't call the guards; she didn't want the spectacle just yet. She walked into the room, her high heels clicking rhythmically on the concrete floor, echoing like gunshots in the small space. She pulled a silenced pistol from her ornate evening bag with a casual grace that was more terrifying than any scream. "Do you know how many people I’ve had to remove to get this life, Emma?" she asked, tilting her head. "One more won't matter. It’s just cleaning up a different kind of mess."

"William knows," I said, my voice steady despite the adrenaline coursing through my veins. "He’s been off the drugs for three days, Isabella. He’s in the ballroom right now, and he’s not alone. I sent the lab report on your 'herbal tea' and the photos of this basement to his lead attorney this morning. The moment you pulled that trigger, the authorities would have had everything they needed."

She laughed, but it was thinner now, a brittle sound that lacked her usual confidence. "He’s a weak man. He’ll choose me over a housekeeper’s accusations. He needs me to survive his own grief."

"He’s a father," I retorted, clutching Leo tighter to my chest. "And you’ve been hurting his son, turning his home into a torture chamber. He might be broken, but he’s not blind. He’s waiting for you to make a move."

Just then, the security door behind her rattled, not with the delicate tap of a servant, but with the heavy, violent force of a man who had finally reclaimed his life. It was William. He stood there, flanked by the very attorneys he had consulted, his face a mask of incandescent, terrifying rage. He had seen the evidence I’d uploaded to his private cloud. He had seen the reality of what Isabella had done to his children. When he looked at her, he didn't see the woman he had married; he saw the monster who had stolen his past and poisoned his future. Isabella turned, the gun trembling in her hand, but it was over. The security team swarmed the room, and Isabella was pinned to the cold, damp floor of the tomb she had built for an innocent child.
