Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Vow

Later that night, long after the last guests had departed and the gala lights had been turned off, a private black boat cut through the calm, dark waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
Dominic and Grace stood together on the open upper deck of the yacht as it drifted slowly near the quiet stone chapel on the Eastern Shore where they had been married a year earlier.
The night air was crisp and cool. The moon hung high in the indigo sky, casting a long, shimmering ribbon of silver light across the dark water.
Dominic wrapped his arms around Grace from behind, pulling her soft, warm body against his chest, resting his chin gently on her shoulder. He wore his charcoal jacket draped over her shoulders to protect her from the ocean breeze.
"Are you cold?" he whispered into her hair.
"No," Grace murmured, leaning her head back against his chest, listening to the strong, steady rhythm of his heart. "I’m perfect."
Dominic turned her gently in his arms until she was facing him. He looked down into her deep brown eyes, touching her cheek with his thumb—the hand that had once been wrapped in a bloody bandage in a twenty-four-hour diner three years ago.
"You never asked me for anything, Grace," Dominic said softly. "Not a mansion, not diamonds, not power."
"I got everything I ever wanted the night you walked into that diner and drank my terrible coffee," Grace smiled softly, her hand resting over his heart.
Dominic chuckled—a low, rich sound that echoed across the quiet water. "The coffee was awful. But the waitress was unforgettable."
He reached into his inner pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box. He opened it to reveal a simple, exquisite ring—a flawless black diamond set in a polished band of white platinum, glowing beneath the moonlight.
"What's this?" Grace asked, her eyes shining.
"A new ring," Dominic said, taking her left hand and sliding the platinum band onto her finger beside her simple gold wedding ring. "To remind you of our second vow."
"And what is our second vow?" Grace asked, looking up into his dark, fierce eyes.
Dominic leaned down, pressing his lips gently against hers in a long, deep kiss that carried all the quiet devotion, protection, and unbreakable love he possessed in his soul.
When he pulled back, he held her face in both of his hands, his thumb gently tracing her lips.
"That no matter how bright the world gets around us," Dominic whispered softly against her skin, "we will always protect the quiet truth of who we are. You are my wife, Grace. My equal, my sanctuary, and my home."
Grace smiled, tears of pure, radiant happiness glinting like diamonds in her eyes. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him down to kiss him again beneath the glowing silver moon.

"And you are mine, Dominic," Grace whispered back into the night breeze. "Forever."
Across the dark harbor, the city lights of Baltimore flickered in the distance—a world where empires rose and fell, where arrogant men lost everything to their own greed, and where a quiet waitress and her husband had built a fortress of love and justice that no storm could ever tear down.
