CHAPTER 2: THE SHOCKING DISCOVERY

The emergency room staff immediately noticed my panic.

"My grandson!" I cried. "Something's wrong!"

A nurse rushed over.

Within seconds Noah was taken into an examination room.

Doctors gathered around him.

Machines beeped.

Questions flew at me.

"How long has he been crying?"

"When did you first notice the swelling?"

"Has he been sick recently?"

I answered everything I could.

But nobody seemed to understand what was causing it.

One doctor carefully examined the strange mark.

His expression changed instantly.

"Get an ultrasound machine."

My heart sank.

The room suddenly became very serious.

Several nurses exchanged nervous glances.

The doctor didn't explain anything.

That frightened me even more.

Minutes later, the ultrasound began.

The screen flickered.

The doctor stared.

Then stared harder.

He called another physician.

Soon three doctors were looking at the monitor.

None of them spoke.

I could barely breathe.

Finally, one doctor turned toward me.

"Ma'am..."

His voice was calm but tense.

"We need to take Noah for further imaging immediately."

"Why?"

He hesitated.

Then answered.

"Because there appears to be a foreign object beneath the skin."

The room spun.

"A what?"

"A foreign object."

I thought I'd misunderstood.

How could a two-month-old baby have a foreign object inside his body?

Nothing made sense.

Noah was rushed away.

I sat frozen in the waiting area.

Hours seemed to pass.

My son and daughter-in-law arrived shortly afterward.

They looked terrified.

"What happened?"

I explained everything.

My daughter-in-law burst into tears.

My son looked completely lost.

Then the surgeon finally appeared.

His face was grim.

"We found the source."

Nobody moved.

Nobody breathed.

The surgeon held up an image.

There, beneath Noah's skin, was a thin metallic object.

Nearly two inches long.

Embedded deep inside his tiny body.

My daughter-in-law gasped.

My son turned white.

"What is that?" he whispered.

The surgeon swallowed.

"It appears to be a needle."

Silence.

Absolute silence.

The world stopped.

A needle.

Inside a two-month-old baby.

No one could understand how it got there.

And then another terrifying question emerged.

May you like

If it wasn't an accident...

Who put it there?
