Chapter 7 - The Unbroken Circle

The wedding wasn't held in a grand cathedral or a flashy downtown ballroom.

Two months after Milo’s recovery, on a crisp Sunday afternoon when the autumn leaves had turned into a brilliant canopy of gold and amber, we gathered in the private glass conservatory at the back of the Falcone estate.

There were no politicians, no syndicate bosses, no press, and no armed guards standing inside the room. Just a handful of people who mattered: Salvatore standing quietly as best man, Dr. Eleanor Ross—who had flown in from Zurich to check on Milo’s continued recovery—and a retired judge who owed Nico a favor he was happy to cash in for a peaceful afternoon.

And Milo.

Our three-year-old son, dressed in a tiny miniature tuxedo that matched his father's, acted as the ring bearer, clutching the velvet box in his chubby hands like it was the most important treasure in the universe.

When I walked down the glass-enclosed aisle in a simple, elegant ivory silk dress, holding a bouquet of white roses, Nico was standing at the altar waiting for me.

He wasn't wearing his usual corporate armor. His charcoal suit was softer, his tie loosened just a fraction, and when he looked at me, every hard, jagged edge of the mafia boss melted away, leaving only the man who had waited two agonizing years for his life to start again.

“You look breathtaking,” he murmured as I reached his side, his voice thick with emotion.

“You clean up all right yourself, Mr. Falcone,” I whispered back, a smile tugging at the corners of my lips.

The ceremony was short, quiet, and blindingly honest. When it came time for the rings, Milo toddled up the aisle, holding the velvet box out to his father with a look of intense, childish concentration.

Nico knelt down, scooped Milo up into one arm, and took the ring out with the other.

“Good job, piccolo,” Nico whispered, kissing the top of Milo’s dark curls before standing back up and turning to me.

He took my left hand in his, his fingers warm and steady.

“Claire,” Nico said, his slate-gray eyes locking onto mine with absolute, unwavering devotion. “For two years, I lived in a silence I built with my own hands. I thought I was protecting you by pushing you away. I was wrong. You are my home. You are my family. And I promise you, for the rest of my days, no storm will ever touch this family again.”

He slid the heavy platinum and black-diamond ring onto my finger. It fit with absolute, seamless perfection—as if it had been waiting for this exact moment all along.

“I love you, Nico,” I said, my voice clear and steady.

“And I love you,” he replied, pulling me into his arms, sealing our vows with a deep, fierce, unconditional kiss as the applause of our tiny, chosen circle filled the glass conservatory.

Down on the floor, Milo giggled, tugging excitedly at the hem of Nico’s trousers, demanding to be included in the hug.

Nico laughed—a rich, genuine sound that I had never heard from him before—and scooped both of us into his arms, holding his entire world right where it belonged.
