PART 2: THE MAN WHO CAME THROUGH THE DOOR

The distance between the hallway and the living room was less than thirty feet.

To most people, it would have been nothing.

To Ethan Cross, it was everything.

Because thirty feet stood between a terrified woman and the man hurting her.

And Ethan had no intention of arriving too late.

His footsteps thundered across the marble floor.

Each stride carried more momentum than the last.

The penthouse blurred around him.

Furniture.

Walls.

Lights.

None of it mattered.

Only the scene ahead.

Sophia on the floor.

Victor over her.

Glass everywhere.

Fear everywhere.

For one split second, Ethan felt something dark rise inside him.

Rage.

Not reckless rage.

Controlled rage.

The kind built over years.

The kind that waits patiently until the moment action becomes necessary.

Victor finally released his grip on Sophia's neck.

Not because he wanted to.

Because he had noticed Ethan.

The intrusion.

The threat.

The interruption.

His eyes widened.

"What are you doing here?"

Ethan didn't answer.

He kept running.

Sophia looked up through tears.

At first she couldn't process what she was seeing.

The room was spinning.

Pain clouded her thoughts.

But then recognition struck.

"Ethan..."

The name escaped as little more than a whisper.

Victor heard it.

And instantly hated it.

The fury already burning inside him intensified.

Of course.

Ethan.

The one man Victor never wanted near his wife.

Not because Ethan had ever done anything wrong.

Because Ethan saw through him.

Always had.

Years earlier, Ethan had served alongside Victor in a private security unit overseas.

They had once been friends.

Brothers, almost.

Until Ethan learned what Victor was truly capable of.

Manipulation.

Violence.

Control.

The friendship had ended that day.

Victor never forgave him.

Now that past was crashing back into the present.

Fast.

Very fast.

"Stay out of this!" Victor shouted.

Ethan ignored him.

Twenty feet.

Fifteen.

Ten.

Victor stood fully now.

Abandoning Sophia.

Turning toward the approaching threat.

His fists clenched.

His shoulders squared.

The room became a battlefield before a single punch had been thrown.

Isabella backed away instinctively.

Her heart pounded.

She could feel the collision coming.

Like watching two trains racing toward each other.

Neither willing to stop.

Victor pointed at Ethan.

"You shouldn't have come."

Ethan finally spoke.

His voice was calm.

Dangerously calm.

"You should have let her go."

Those words landed harder than a scream.

Victor laughed.

A harsh sound.

"You think you're going to stop me?"

Five feet.

Four.

Three.

Everything slowed.

Sophia could barely breathe.

The shattered glass around her reflected flashes of light.

Victor shifted his weight forward.

Preparing.

Ethan never slowed.

Not even for a second.

Victor lunged first.

A mistake.

The moment he moved, Ethan exploded upward.

Years of training took over.

Instinct.

Timing.

Precision.

Power.

His body launched into the air.

The movement happened so fast it barely seemed real.

One second he was sprinting.

The next he was airborne.

Victor's eyes widened.

Too late.

Much too late.

Ethan twisted his body midair.

Driving all his momentum into a single strike.

A flying kick.

Clean.

Direct.

Devastating.

Impact.

The sound echoed through the penthouse like an explosion.

Ethan's boot slammed directly into Victor's chest.

The force was overwhelming.

Victor's body lifted off the ground.

Completely.

His feet left the floor.

His arms flailed outward.

Shock replaced anger.

For the first time all night, Victor looked afraid.

Then gravity took him.

Backwards.

Fast.

Very fast.

He crashed into the living room wall with tremendous force.

The drywall shattered instantly.

A large decorative glass panel behind it exploded into thousands of pieces.

The noise was deafening.

Glass rained everywhere.

Wood splintered.

Dust filled the air.

Victor disappeared into the wreckage.

The wall literally collapsed around him.

Silence followed.

A terrible silence.

Nobody moved.

Nobody breathed.

Even Isabella stood frozen.

Unable to process what she had just witnessed.

The living room looked like a disaster zone.

Broken furniture.

Broken glass.

A broken wall.

And somewhere inside the debris...

Victor.

Ethan landed firmly.

Balanced.

Controlled.

His feet touched the floor without stumbling.

Without hesitation.

Without fear.

He immediately shifted into a defensive stance.

Eyes fixed on the hole in the wall.

Ready.

Prepared.

Waiting.

Sophia stared.

For a moment she wondered if she was dreaming.

Nothing felt real anymore.

The attack.

The rescue.

The destruction.

It all seemed impossible.

Yet there Ethan stood.

Solid.

Unmoving.

Like a wall between her and danger.

Dust slowly drifted through the air.

The room remained silent.

Then came a sound.

A cough.

From inside the debris.

Victor was still conscious.

Still moving.

Still dangerous.

Ethan's expression hardened.

He took one step forward.

Then another.

The atmosphere changed again.

Because the fight wasn't over.

Not yet.

Victor emerged slowly from the rubble.

Blood trickled from a cut above his eyebrow.

His expensive suit was torn.

Glass fragments clung to his clothing.

His chest rose heavily.

Pain flashed across his face.

But so did hatred.

Pure hatred.

He looked directly at Ethan.

Years of resentment burning behind his eyes.

"You..."

The word came out hoarse.

Ethan didn't blink.

Victor staggered forward.

One step.

Then another.

Despite everything, he still wanted to fight.

Still wanted control.

Still refused to accept defeat.

Sophia watched in horror.

Because she knew Victor.

And she knew something terrible.

Cornered men became dangerous.

Especially men like him.

Especially when their pride had just been shattered.

Victor clenched his fists again.

Blood dripped onto the floor.

His breathing sounded uneven.

But the rage remained.

Stronger than ever.

Ethan glanced briefly toward Sophia.

Only for a second.

But that second changed everything.

Because it reminded him why he was here.

Not to win a fight.

Not to prove a point.

To protect her.

To end this.

And deep down, Victor realized it too.

For the first time, he understood that tonight wasn't about power anymore.

It wasn't about arguments.

Or jealousy.

Or control.

Tonight was about consequences.

May you like

And they were finally catching up with him.
