Chapter 8 - Chaos City

One year later.
The morning sun washed over the green hills of Greenwich, painting the stone walls of the estate in bright hues of gold and amber.
The front gates were wide open. There were no armed guards in tactical gear patrolling the hedges, no black blast shutters over the windows, and no cold, oppressive silence in the hallways.
The Rinaldi estate had been completely transformed.
Julian had spent twelve months executing a master plan that had stunned the entire East Coast: he had completely liquidated his syndicate assets, handing over control of the shipping ports to legitimate labor unions while transferring his wealth into green energy, real estate development, and children’s medical foundations.
The dark empire was gone. In its place stood a family.
In the massive, sunlit kitchen, the smell of fresh coffee, sizzling bacon, and sweet blueberry batter filled the air.
Claire stood near the marble island, wearing a simple white sundress, her autumn-colored hair pulled back in a loose clip. On her left ring finger, a flawless emerald-cut diamond sparkled in the morning light.
Sitting on the high stools around the island were four children, dressed in matching blue school uniforms.
Rosie was busy helping Sam paint a colorful sign for their school science fair; Leo was reading a book on architecture; and Nico was sitting near the edge, his dark eyes watching Claire with a bright, happy smile.
The scar above his eyebrow was still there, but it no longer looked like a badge of trauma. It was just part of who he was—a boy who was safe, loved, and whole.
A pair of strong, warm arms wrapped around Claire’s waist from behind.
Julian pulled her gently against his chest, resting his chin on her shoulder, breathing in the sweet scent of her hair. He wore a navy blue sweater with the sleeves pushed up, looking years younger, relaxed, and deeply at peace.
“Good morning, Mrs. Rinaldi,” Julian murmured against her ear, pressing a gentle kiss to her temple.
“Good morning, Don Julian,” Claire teased, turning her head to kiss his cheek. “Are you ready for the morning rush?”
“I’m the former head of an international empire, Claire,” Julian smiled, his gray eyes sparkling with light. “I think I can handle breakfast.”
At that exact moment, a warm blueberry pancake flew through the air, sailing across the kitchen like a blue-patterned frisbee.
Without even turning around, Claire reached up with her right hand and caught it cleanly mid-air.
The entire kitchen went silent for a fraction of a second.
Nico, Leo, Sam, and Rosie burst into loud, uncontrollable laughter, clapping their hands wildly.
“Told you!” Nico yelled to his brothers, grinning from ear to ear. “I told you she’d catch it!”
Julian let out a deep, booming laugh—a sound that carried through the open windows and echoed across the sunlit gardens—and pulled Claire into a deep, passionate kiss right there beside the stove.

“Best six thousand dollars a month I ever spent,” Julian whispered against her lips.
Claire laughed, leaning into his chest as her four children giggled around them, filling the magnificent stone house with the sweetest, loudest noise in the world: the sound of a family that had finally come home.
