Chapter 8 - The Queen of the Estate

The Drake Hotel in downtown Chicago was ablaze with crystal lights, golden chandeliers, and the glitz of the city’s highest elite.

The annual Rossi Foundation Gala was the biggest social event of the year.

Rival syndicate bosses, politicians, judges, and high-society heiresses packed the grand ballroom, sipping champagne and whispering among themselves.

“Is it true?” a wealthy woman in emeralds whispered behind her silk fan. “He’s marrying a servant? A woman of... that size?”

“It’s absurd,” another sneered. “Leo Rossi could have had any socialite in the country. Why would he settle for a maid?”

Before the whispers could spread any further, the brass trumpets sounded near the grand staircase.

The doors swung open.

Leo Rossi stepped out onto the balcony, dressed in a sharp black tuxedo, looking every inch the powerful, majestic Don of Chicago.

Beside him walked Beatrice.

She took every breath away in the room.

She wore a custom crimson velvet gown designed specifically for her by Paris’s top fashion house. The dress hugged her rich curves with breathtaking elegance, cascading down into a long, luxurious train. Her hair was swept up, revealing her glowing face, her chin held high, her eyes sparkling like diamonds.

Beside them walked Lily, holding Beatrice’s left hand, beaming with pride in a matching crimson dress.

The whispers in the room died instantly into an awe-struck, stunned silence.

Leo led Beatrice down the grand stairs, his hand resting securely on the small of her back. They walked through the crowd, which parted like the Red Sea before them.

Leo stepped up to the microphone on the central stage.

“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen,” Leo’s voice boomed across the silent ballroom. “Tonight, we establish the Lily Rossi Trauma & Children’s Health Foundation.”

The crowd applauded politely.

“And tonight,” Leo continued, taking Beatrice’s hand and leading her to the center of the stage beside him, “I want to introduce you to the future Queen of the Rossi Estate. My fiancée, Beatrice Miller.”

He looked out at the sea of wealthy socialites with eyes that held a clear, unmistakable warning.

“Beatrice came into my life when it was dark,” Leo declared, his voice echoing with absolute authority. “She showed this city what real strength, real dignity, and real love look like. Any respect you show to me, you will show to her tenfold. Because without her, none of us would be standing here tonight.”

The applause started slowly, led by Mateo at the front table, and then erupted into a thunderous, standing ovation that echoed off the high ceilings of the Drake Hotel.

Beatrice looked out over the clapping crowd, then down at the little girl holding her hand, and finally up at the man standing fiercely by her side.

She was no longer invisible. She was cherished.
