Chapter 10 - Heaven’s Furniture

A year later.

It was a warm, quiet summer evening on the shores of Lake Michigan.

The Rossi mansion was filled with the sound of music, laughter, and the smell of roasting meat and fresh pastries.

In the sunken rose garden, under an arch of white jasmine flowers, a small, private wedding ceremony had just concluded.

Beatrice stood on the green lawn, wearing a breathtaking ivory lace wedding gown that swept the grass. Her veil fluttered gently in the soft lake breeze.

Leo stood beside her, his hand wrapped tightly around hers, his dark eyes filled with tears of pure, unadulterated joy as the priest declared them husband and wife.

Lily, now seven years old, ran across the grass, tossing pink rose petals into the air, laughing as Mateo tried to catch them.

As the sun began to set over the horizon, painting the sky in vibrant shades of gold, purple, and crimson, a low, deep rumble of thunder rolled across Lake Michigan.

The sky was clear, but the thunder sounded rich and warm over the blue water.

Lily stopped running, looked up at the sky, and then ran over to grab Beatrice’s hand.

“Bee!” Lily giggled, pointing at the lake. “Hear that?”

Beatrice knelt down in her wedding dress, pulling the little girl into a warm embrace. “I hear it, sweetie.”

“What is it?” Lily asked, her brown eyes shining bright.

Beatrice looked up at Leo, who was kneeling beside them, wrapping his arms around both his wife and his daughter.

“It’s just heaven moving furniture, baby,” Beatrice whispered, resting her head against Leo’s shoulder as the cool breeze swept over them. “Making room for a lot of happiness.”

Leo kissed Beatrice softly on the lips, then kissed his daughter’s forehead, holding his family tight as the stars began to dance across the quiet Chicago night.
