Chapter 6 - The Breach at the Estate

Two weeks later, I moved Savannah, her meager belongings, and Leo into the sprawling stone estate I owned on the North Shore of Long Island—a sprawling fortress surrounded by iron gates, rolling lawns, and private security patrols.

I had initially offered her a guest suite in the East Wing, but Savannah shook her head. She moved into a modest, sunlit room directly adjacent to Leo’s nursery, refusing any servant uniform, insisting on wearing her own simple cotton dresses and sneakers.

For the first time in years, the grand mansion felt alive. The echoing, marble halls filled with the smell of freshly baked bread, the sound of soft hums, and occasionally, the tentative, beautiful laughter of my son.

But my corporate enemies were not about to let me find peace.

It was a crisp Tuesday evening when the security alarms began to wail across the estate.

I was in my ground-floor study reviewing financial documents when Frankie burst through the door, his face pale and his breathing ragged.

“Boss! We’ve been breached!” Frankie shouted, drawing his sidearm. “Marcus Henderson didn't just try a boardroom coup—he hired a private extraction crew. They’ve bypassed the perimeter sensors on the west gate. They’re coming for the boy.”

My blood ran cold. Leo.

Henderson knew he couldn't beat me legally, so he was going to use my son as collateral—kidnap him, force me to sign over my voting shares under duress, and destroy me in the shadows.

“Where are they?” I demanded, grabbing the heavy steel lockbox containing my father’s vintage revolver from the desk.

“They’re heading toward the East Wing! The security team is engaging, but two guards are already down!”

I didn't wait for elevators or bodyguards. I sprinted through the darkened corridors of the mansion, the grandfather clock ticking frantically in my ears. As I reached the oak double doors leading to the nursery wing, I heard heavy boots stomping on the hardwood floors, followed by harsh, aggressive voices.

“Check every room! Find the kid! Henderson wants him out of the house in five minutes!”

I raised the revolver, stepping out from the shadow of a marble pillar as two masked men in tactical gear rounded the corner.

Before I could pull the trigger, a heavy ceramic vase came flying down from the gallery landing above, smashing directly onto the helmet of the lead intruder, sending him crashing to the floor.

I looked up in shock.

Standing on the second-floor balcony, holding a heavy porcelain planter with both hands, was Savannah Reeves. Her hair was wild, her eyes blazing with absolute fury.

“Get away from them!” she screamed, dropping a second heavy planter right onto the second operative’s shoulder, dropping him to his knees with a howl of agony.

I rushed forward, slamming the butt of my revolver into the second intruder's temple, knocking him out cold.

“Savannah!” I shouted, looking up. “Are you and Leo safe?”

May you like

“We’re in the panic room!” her voice echoed down from the reinforced doorway at the end of the hall. “I locked the steel bulkhead as soon as I heard the glass break!”

Frankie and the remaining security detail swarmed the hallway seconds later, slapping cuffs on the unconscious mercenaries and securing the perimeter. The threat was neutralized, but the message was crystal clear: my world had brought its violence directly to my son’s doorstep.
